New to IBM - recommend a video card for 5150

No, it's an Olivetti. I'll still post the exact model with ID because there's a big chance it'll work on IBM too.

    Pentium 4

They are quite reliable, with a fan of course. I used to work in a company that sold hundreds of 2U rack unit boxes based on C3 as PBX or firewall-router. From that company I got a 1U rack mini ITX case with a PSU that didn't mind running without a fan, the case wasn't big enough for C3 but it...

New to IBM - recommend a video card for 5150

Interesting. I thought it doesn't work due to XT DMA. In any case it's up to user to try and find experiences in matching the card with computer online. I mentioned 9000 because as you say many cards are out there and still cheap and one should try find a working 8 bit compatible 16 bit ISA VGA...

New to IBM - recommend a video card for 5150

Yeah if you actually need to do prolonged work on the machine, connecting modern LCD is a cool option. A lot of cheap 16bit ISA VGAs work in 8bit mode. TVGA9000 is ~30 euro on euro ebay, should be even more cheaper in America. I hope NuXT production gets restarted.

New to IBM - recommend a video card for 5150

There's a lot of merit in running 8-bit VGA even on 4.77MHz machine. It has faster text mode speed compared to CGA or MDA and it has reprogrammable character set these do not have which makes TUI experience way nicer. On the other hand most of usual VGA cards used provide good enough backward...

    Pentium 4

I won't say I like that, but I like the fact there will be something to think about in the next upgrade. All my computers up to 2015 have been stock cooled, for i7 I was advised by a friend to get aftermarket cooling with the purchase. Thermaltake which is inexpensive and quiet. Kept my i7 on...

I wonder has anyone tried to make a bimetal circuit breaker for CPU thermal protection.

I'm looking for complete dumps of the BIOS ROMs of 4 old video cards

Between "other mental issues" or trolling and I chose trolling because that's less grim and quite harmless. Take a look at his other post, the apology one. Person is trying to leave the impression of knowing something, while apologizing for having grave holes in his understanding of original...

I'm looking for complete dumps of the BIOS ROMs of 4 old video cards

It's a troll. If I google "Linux kernel download" Winworld is nowhere near the results. So he uses the site and that site almost exclusively deals with disk images or ISOs, anyone handling that knows you can't boot into a .BIN file.

    Pentium 4

These product designations is something I saw the first time the other day when I plugged in the Advantech board. It reported P24 as CPU. So I went on wikipedia and saw a table of internal core designations. So it's real. In the sense that P-designation is coming out from real hardware. I wonder...

    Pentium 4

https://theretroweb.com/cpus/1011 see the "core" part. BIOS of Advantech SBC with DX2/66 reports CPU as P24. Btw. I was just responding to confusion about someone comparing 386 to Pentium 4 because of the acronym.

    233MMX without fan

I have one of those dual ATX/AT boards, but this is not it. This is ATX through AT+additional 3 pin, it's all coming directly from PSU. Thanks for that tip, that should do.

    233MMX without fan

CPU fan seems to be quiet, no audible difference if I just plug it off for a bit. I need to disconnect the HDD and CDROM to see what's the noise level of PSU fan. These Olivetti boxes are good for picoPSU, easy to fix it in the middle between rails, and there is a bracket on the rear you can...

    233MMX without fan

I'd like to disconnect the small fan from the heatsink to make the computer silent. It's not going to run more than few hours at a time tops and it's not going to run 100% CPU power with anything I intend. Picture of the case is attached below. I would just like a confirmation from forum so I...

Getting Win 3.1 Software to work in Win XP

I'm not sure I've ever seen an application program loading/unloading VxDs directly and I'm pretty sure a driver is not needed for a serial device. Have you tried setting compatibility mode for .exe file? Are serial ports working normally under XP? If yes/yes, it's possible to debug what's...

DS is just a device that can run emulators. You can run dosbox anywhere. Somebody's fridge may "run" Windows 98 that way too. The practical difference between 95 and 98 is in driver model, as driver model was changed to support faster hardware via ever-evolving APIs like DirectX, but old one...
