IBM AT: How do you install 256KB RAM with a type 2 or 3 motherboard?

It only has one bank, does it take 128K chips as well? I'm not getting anything with google or forum search. Looked on Modem7's site, perhaps i missed it.

Does anyone have a BIOS for a SIS 460 (85C460) 486 based motherboard?

I've got this 85C460 based VL-BUS motherboard that I'm not getting a clock signal at the ISA bus. I've traced it to the chipset, and there is nothing there either. There are two clock signals going into it, a 33MHZ, and a ~14MHz. All tests are made at the chip. The datasheet for the chipset...

    Acer Labs M5818 A1 24-pin chip datasheet. RTC on a 486

I've got this 486 board with this chip on it, that has an oscillator heading to it via another chip. AFAIK it is a RTC, but I can't find a datasheet for it anywhere. Pin 24 isn't connected to 5V, and pins 1 and 4 are tied together on the PCB. on the Motorola part that would be NC and AD0, which...

Supersoft diagnostic ROMs in clone 286 & 3/486

I currently have a 286-16 clone board that had a bit of battery damage. There are a few traces to fix. The SS diagnostic ROM for the AT (from http://minuszerodegrees.net), just gives a blinking cursor in the top left hand corner after about 20s on this board. So far I've fixed two motherboards...

eBay GSP screwed me out of my IBM 5150

I saw this thread a while ago, and usually I would say the GSP is fantastic, never had a problem. However my last purchase has been an absolute nightmare. I found a 5150 on ebay sn: 0130356, stock as far as I can tell. I think this is one of the very first made in '82. The images were terrible...

    Dump BIOS on a 486?

I've got the old PC-CHIPS VESA 486 board, the one you could order with any chipset, they just relabeled the chip. I'm trying to dump the BIOS from it so I can write it to another chip, to get a second identical board working. I've been searching around and maybe it's the heat, but I can't seem...

    Catastrophic HDD failure (large pics)

I've been going thru some old hard drives and chucking out the knackered ones. Came across two WD drives that failed in an odd way. #1 - The studs holding the magnet in place have somehow broken: #2 - Total carnage! there's a few more of the 2nd here...

Does anyone know of a program that can do bridging for Ethernet to token ring? I found the demonstration of the IBM Network Bridge Program on uxwbill's youtube channel: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eHylz96t45Y I also seem to remember a program simply called 'bridge', which isn't very...

    WIN 3.0 and DR-DOS 5.0 EMM386.SYS issues

Can anyone point me to a guide to installing Win 3.0 on DR-DOS 5. I've been having a hard time dealing with emm386.sys from DR-DOS and Windows. So far I've got himem.sys from windows to load followed by emm386.sys. After some LAN Mangaer drivers are loaded high, I end up with 576K RAM. But Win...

Anyone know the source of these Intel Windows help files on elhvb.com?

These files contain some information about Intel motherboards. Bit of an odd decision to put them in this format. Anyway they contain some useful information, and I wondered if there were any more. I'm looking for some information on the Intel 401/402 motherboards. Does anyone know the original...

Webpage about early (PC/XT-to-Pentium) chip sets

Hello everyone. I made a webpage about early chipsets. There doesn't seem to be that much information on pre-Pentium chipsets. What there is, is a bit fractured, little bit here, little bit there. Well except for bitsavers.org (Al Kossow, I believe, thank you), that was incredibly useful...
