So now that I figured out how to make working Amiga floppy disks with my Kryoflux I want to make sure both my floppy drives are working. I bought a replacement drive for my internal drive; I was using the drive out of my 1010 external as an internal drive for a bit. The 1010 used to work (last year). Now when I try it (either internal or external) you can hear it try to work but it wont read anything.

Anyone fmailiar with these 1010 external drive units? I am not sure if the drive mechanisms are the same or not But mine is model M57BCL-2 (made by Mitsumi) There are some sites that refer to this as model D357

There are a bunch of small through hole electrolytic caps. Are these usually the culprit? No evidence of leakage. I dont remember if I changed the drive ID but its set to DS0

Im going to start with a recap as some of these 3.5" drives have known bad cap issues.. Just wasnt sure if this was one of them. Odd the external drive mechanism is completely different from the drive internal to the A500.

Cool. I look forward the see what your skill set is capable of.......

Must be my depleting rum ration, scurvy is setting in. Anyway I will post back after the first attemted repair.

So after a complete recap the drive remains the same. The motor is barely turning to spin the disk. I think this drive is toast. ITs a mitsumi M57BCL. Does anyone know what comparable models might fit into the 1010 external Amiga enclosure so I can replace this drive?

I have several of those drives with similar issues. Slow sluggish motor or jamming mech.

But they are the only thing that will fit in an A1000 unless you are an advanced modder. (I am not)

I saw that link. Besides good pictures the guy states "repair" is beyond his skillset and just bought another drive.. so its not too helpful other than seeing the inside in photos.
I’m the guy who wrote this article. I came across this thread a little while ago. I’d be interested as to how you got on with your repair? As I offered on my website, you’re also welcome to my original mech for the price of postage only if you think your “repair” skills are up to the task.

I sent you a PM
