Hello everyone. I have an Amstrad PC 1640 with Nec V30 processor and Intel 8087 coprocessor. I want to upgrade the Nec V30 from 8MHz to 10MHz. I have seen many schematics for IBM, 8088 processors, etc. But none to upload an Amstrad PC1640 with Nec V30 16bits at 10MHz. Can someone guide me, guide me or give me some information. Thanks.

Hello.

It is not clear what you want to do:
* Upgrade the V30 chip from an 8 MHz rated one to a 10 MHz rated one; or
* Upgrade the motherboard from 8 MHz to 10 MHz operation.

They are different things.

Upgrade the V30 chip from an 8 MHz rated one to a 10 MHz rated one

This is like changing the tyres on your car for tyres that are rated at a faster speed. It does not make your car go faster.

Upgrade the motherboard from 8 MHz to 10 MHz operation

Can involve things like:
* Changing crystal/s
* Changing various chips for faster rates ones

The upgrade may cause the BIOS to misbehave.

I have seen people who have a button with which you can select the speed of the processor. For example 4Mhz, 8Mhz and 10Mhz. And I think they do it with some plates, integrated or something like that. My intention was to be able to upgrade the Nec V30 from 8Mhz to 10Mhz. Overclock? But without damaging the computer, I don't want to risk damaging it since it is my little treasure and I take great care of it.
