CBM PET 3032 STRANGE BOOT

We came joint second in the quiz!

What is the current state of these ROM links on Nivag's board - ON or OFF?

9AB, CD, E, F.

Also what are the ROM numbers on the PET ROMs that are currently installed?

Dave

Ok,

What ROM numbers have you got fitted. It looks like the checksums for BASIC 2 to me in ROMs B, C and D (with E and F being internal to Nivag's board if I understand correctly).

Dave
Yes i have all basic 2 roms except for ud8... In this socket i have pettester eprom.

Ok,

Try changing the link for ROM F from ON to OFF. This will use the Kernel ROM from the PET and we can checksum that.

Can you make absolutely sure that the ROM checksums displayed are not changing!

ROM F is OK as well - indicating the correct checksum for BASIC 2 also.

You still haven't stated whether the indicated ROM checksums are stable when displayed for the entire duration of the countdown. Are they?

Dave

Yes are stable! I don t understand why without nivag s board, pet crashes with dram error after some passes...

That's what we are getting to... Have patience my friend! Remember what I have stated previously, one thing at a time?

We have now moved all of the ROMs (apart from the PETTESTER ROM of course) over to the PET rather than Nivag's board.

As the checksums are stable - indicating no potentially faulty ROMs - how many fault-free DRAM test passes have you had in this configuration?

Dave

I am going out shortly.

So get at least 20 DRAM passes under your belt in this configuration.

Then, move the ROM E link on Nivag's board from ON to OFF to select the PETTESTER ROM on the PET board and give it another run.

If it fails then, you need to look first at the IC socket that the PETTESTER ROM is sitting in (UD8), then to the PETTESTER EPROM itself.

Dave

I am desperate, with E switch Off, i have this problem

You could try

Put E back to on (ie run pettest from the board) and put your PETTEST rom in UD8 then show the picture again.

This would mean PETTEST running from nivags board would check the checksum of your PETTEST rom and show it, Dave then should be able to tell us if its right.

So it would be Kernal in UD6, nothing in UD7, PETTEST in UD8, Nivags board with RAM off, ROM E & F On, ROM 9AB & CD Off.

All other chips leave as is.

Does that make sense ?

Pettester is already in ud8 socket Gary...

No need to be desparate!

We know that the problem is related to either the PETTESTER EPROM or the IC socket UD8.

Did you not read my last paragraph of post #810 stating what to look at next if the test failed?

i replaced socket with a new one some time ago on ud8 Dave....

Is this the same PET as was described back in the thread "PET 2001N horizontal line" that we installed the two wires between UD6/19 and UD7/19 and between UD6/22 and UD7/22?
