CBM PET 3032 STRANGE BOOT

If you put the EDIT ROM back into UD8 and it 'works' what does that actually tell you?

If it is the EPROM that you burnt the PETTESTER code into - then all well and good. However, if it is something else - all that will happen will be that the PET may be unreliable in operation and crashes.

what could I do otherwise?

Dave today the new ls191 is arrived...I think it's useless to replace it, right? does this ic have nothing to do with our problem?

I recommend burning the PETTESTER variant I attached a few posts ago into a ROM, you may need to repeat the 2K twice if using a 4K ROM and put it into whatever socket covers F800.

That way we at least eliminate the editor socket, although obvious we do still have Desperado's ROM choice and burning skills left as variables.

Although it is no longer relevant to your repair, could you try testing the new 191 in your chip tester? It would be interesting to see if it passes or fails it.

In that case, I would put the working 191 in the PET then. There is no point in having a faulty device in there...

Everything you should need is in post #885.

Read Nivag's post, look at the PET schematics (for the ROMs) and you tell me which socket it should go in. You have to be able to work these things out for yourself - or at least have a go and ask for confirmation.

Full marks!

Don't forget, however, that the PETTESTER code is 2K in size, but the 2532 EPROM is 4K, so you will need to copy two lots of the PETTESTER code together in binary (one after the other) to make a file that is 4K (4096 bytes) in length before programming into the 2532.

Dave
ok thanks! But how do i set up the nivag board?

Ok thanks! So...I have to remove the 2k pettester eprom from ud8 and insert the original edit rom...then I have to remove the original ud9 rom and insert the modified pettester?
