CBM PET 3032 STRANGE BOOT

It sounds like we are good then.

Remove Nivag's board first (leaving PETTESTER in UD9) and put the CPU back in the socket.

Give the PET a check again with PETTESTER (making sure the checksums still agree with your photograph and the DRAM test is still OK).

If so, pop the Kernal ROM into UD9 in place of the 4K PETTESTER and play a few games of space invaders!

EDIT: We didn't tell you to remove Nivag's board did we?! This means, at some point, you made TWO changes to the configuration not ONE... Remember what I said?

I am really desperate now!!
I inserted a (working) recorder and turned on the pet, incredibly the cursor disappeared!
I unplugged the recorder and tried to turn it back on but the cursor is gone :( time to raise the white flag?

I think it's those damn original white sockets...I moved a 6520 a bit and the cursor reappeared!

I tried to load a cassette but in have this on screen...

And again, it shows you how important it is to test everything...

But good detective work by yourself, and not one word of desperation... Although you thought about waving the white flag in surrender at one point!

Not me, I was just sitting here munching popcorn, like all the other interested observers. What I will say is that Nivag's diagnostic gadget seems to be by far and away the best and most flexible of several such tools available, if I owned a PET myself my order for one would be in already.

The purists probably crave old unreliable MOS hardware but IMHO 6520s should be consigned to history. Even the most obvious replacement a 6821 is a bit obsolete.
W65C21N6TPG-14 is the way to go; order yourself some stock!

6520 -> W65C21N6TPG-14
6522 -> W65C22N6TPG-14

Thanks, useful info (having just ordered a 6520)

No downsides ?
