Hello everyone,

I am happy to announce that we have been testing Xenforo for the last month or so, and it has been going very well. This has not been a secret test, rather just a quite one while we were getting ready to announce it.

So come on over and give it a go, it's at https://forum.vcfed.org/

I answered over there and discovered I'm under moderation, so I'll paste it here too.

This message is awaiting moderator approval, and is invisible to normal visitors.

I think the very first thing is to get rid of the lengthy "our mission" that appears on every page. It's quite annoying.

I'll let you know of anything else later.

Excellent news. I will give it a go tonight.

Many thanks to all you guys and gals beavering away in your own time for our benefit...

Dave

I think it would make more sense if the subforums were expanded by default and the long list of personal blogs was collapsed by default, rather than the other way around.

Also it would be helpful if the pinned threads were a little more obvious. The thin outline pin icon is easy to miss. Other XenForo forums use a solid red pin icon which is much more visible.

Otherwise it's fine!

The forums there are a 100% copy of the content that was here around the end of September. We will take another export, during an outage, when we do the cutover.

We're definitely open to improving the layout. Suggestions are welcome!

The user location, join date, and post count are notably missing, but I'm sure that's already on the list to add.

I think it would look better with a bit of teal green so the color scheme matches the front page. At least the top bar should be teal instead of blue.

That was the first thing I noticed as well. I noticed our avatars were migrated over but at a low bitrate so I just re-uploaded that.. Thats a very trivial thing but I thought Id mention it.

Can someone explain the points system for existing members?

Will there be some sort of option for darker colors? The bright background and text are really hard on the eyes for some.

Can't search while logged in. That is, when not logged in, you have the Search with the magnify glass next to the Log In and Register buttons up top.

When you log in, those go away.

Not only that, if you grab the URL for Advanced Search, and use it while logged in, you get an Oops page.

Finally, if you go to Search on this forum, and look for posts by whartung, with the word "compiler", you'll get, I think, 5 posts.

On the new forum, if you do that from the Advanced Search while not logged in, you get 0 results.

I commented on this before about XenForo and how on another forum, I found the search lacking. Can't say anything about the beta forums right now, and what their state may be, but there's an example where the two forums return different results for the same search.

Thanks for all the suggestions! We're having another discussion internally, next week, and will see what we can get implemented.

Probably been mentioned before, but is there any quick solution to parking that pinkish intro at the top of every thread? Other than that, it's the bee's knees.:inlove:

There is a tiny little x at the top right corner, if you click it that will make ti go away on all pages. If it keeps coming back, then you may have sort of cookie blocking going on and that "setting" is not being saved.

I'm not very observant - works okay :D

Will we be stuck with circular-only avatar restrictions or is square an option?

Also yeah a black/teal/white theme would be a better fir with the rest of the site.

Additionally will the migration of blog postings break links? Some of my articles are cross-linked with eachother and others are linked from external sources like Hackaday.

did something change on the test platform as I cannot make a post all I see is a message stating "you have insuffcient privileges to reply here".
