I recently picked up an old Sperry HT. In it was a card that I had never seen before. A Computer Logics Emulator Card 3003.

I've searched the web, and while there were more than a few people trying to sell one, none of them had any information on what it was.

It has a Z8530APS-SCC (Serial Communications Controller) on it. Along with some MC1488P (Quad Line EIA-232D Driver).

Is this just some super RS-232 card (ala the old Hayes ESP card)? What does it emulate?

Based on what I've seen in the rest of the computer, it probably doesn't work. But I'm still curious as to what it is.

Sperry Univac had (through the 1980s) something called UTS (Universal Terminal System) that operated with terminals such as this one. This card, like an IBM 3270 emulator card, lets a PC masquerade as such a terminal. Note that the serial interface protocol is synchronous, not async.
