I was working for IBM when the first PC was announced. I immediately signed up for and received my PC in the initial distribution. The 5150 S/N is 0125147. I also order a 5161 when it was first available and it's S/N is 02465025161. I still have all the original software, publications and packaging materials plus much more. They have been safely stored in my home and on display in my office. So they are in very good condition. I have many more details.

Hi,

How much for one set? Computer + Doc's + Software?

I am trying to figure out what is a fair price. I think what I have is fairly unique compared to what I see on ebay. I have the original ordering documentation and even the packing boxes which are still in good condition. I live in the Hudson Valley and would love to eliminate the cost and risks of damage in shipping everything. Are you interested in the software as well?

Didnt know you had the expansion unit. Does it have a working transmitter card and receiver card? Yeah that will jack the price up a bit.

That whole setup would be worth quite a bit to the right person. I would ask $1000 OBO

What's the deal with the half height Teac drives in the 5150 though? That seems non-standard

Just curious. The posting says "FIRST EDITION" But we havent seen the system Serial number, the board (and board revision) model, and the PSU make/model to back that up. Its a bold claim if not substantiated. Its like how everything on eBay is sold as "RARE" when there is nothing rare or special about most mass produced items. Best not to throw those terms around.

Eh, it could qualify as rare - no 5161 units active on eBay right now, maybe 8 sold in the last year.

Mass produced.... not rare. They always come up on ebay, its just noone is happy about thier price tag. ITs not not rare its just expensive. There is a difference. I have had plenty of opportunities to buy a set.. but turned it down for price.

<sigh...> I just passed on a free PC + Expansion chassis. Both units had served as rodent condominiums for decades and were too disgusting to consider for refurbish. The slot boards were - amazing enough - unscathed so I did rescue the bus extender board pair and cables.

I have done plenty of restorations on rodent/bug/rust basketcases so that parts easy. The only thing on something like that I am unsure of it the paint. I havent had to paint an IBM before so I have no idea which paint to use and how to texture. But that would not stop me from having taken the machines. Place them in thick contractor bags (use bug spray if necessary) and seal tight so its safe and clean to place in your vehicle. Of course you will want to wash it before taking it in the home.

I have attached pictures of the insides of both my 5150 and 5161. No small animal damage. I think they are in very good condition. I may try to "clean" them if I can find a good YouTube video to show me how. Let me know if there are other pictures I could take to help you decide if you are interested in my computer. Thanks for your interest and advice.

There was a comment made about the half height Teac drives. I still have the original single sided 5 1/4 floppy drive that can be easily reinstalled.

What I do is setup a clothes drying line, and get some binder clips, and hang the boards. Then I mix rubbing alcohol and distilled water with a drop of dish soap or dishwasher tablet fragment into a spray bottle, and spray down the board and let it sit a few mins. Then i go at it with a paintbrush, and spray it down again with just rubbing alcohol. Try to shake out what leftover fluid is on the board, or sop it up with some paper towels and let em dry a day. Always worked great for me. (y)
