Help with Sergey's 8-Bit FDC and Serial Port board.

Assuming that the correct procedure is used, if unsuccessful, consider swapping out the AT28C64 EEPROM. Over the years, I have had a few AT28C64's go 'weird' on me.
If the re-flash fails The AT28C64 in the FDC will need erasing in a programmer and trying to flash the eeprom with XTIDECFG.com again, This sometimes cures the problem.

I've had / have a bunch of AT28C256 eeproms and none of them would program using XTIDECFG or my GQ-4x, I put them in my DATA I/O and erased them all, After that they all worked perfectly fine in my GQ-4x and with XTIDECFG.

Would it be worth my while investing in a GQ-4x?

My new XT-FDC has arrived and works in my IBM XT.

My problem now is to get my .BIN file and XTIDECFG onto my IBM XT to flash my original FDC. I have a packet driver for an EtherLink II which is in the XT. I have some mTCP files on a 360 kb disk and will try to set up an FTP server on the XT and transfer the files that way.

I'll then get back to flashing my original XT-FDC and report back.

I have ground to a halt. My packet driver 3c503.com is on a 1.44 Mb floppy and the 1.44 Mb FDD won't read it. I'll have to ask someone to send me a 360 kb floppy with the driver on it.

Well, not specifically a GQ-4x, just an EPROM programmer that will suit your particular needs.
Have a read of the information at [here].
A somewhat recent 'What model should I get?' type query by someone on these forums is at [here].

Are you aware that on your IBM 5160 (or IBM 5150), you can connect a 1.44M drive up to the stock IBM floppy controller, and with that, read 720K sized diskettes? See [here].

I'm getting ready for the Funeral and will report back later.

My problem is getting the packet driver onto the disk in the first place.

You have a XT-IDE CF controller that works ?.
Do you have a spare CF card you can use with it ?.
Can you copy the necessary files to CF using another computer ?

You don't want to use the bootable CF card that's working with the controller. Just in case it gets messed up.
The spare CF card does not need to be bootable
The spare CF card just needs to be partitioned and formatted to FAT16 and accessible in your 5160 when booted from a DOS boot floppy.

Can I format it to FAT16 in my windows 11 pc
I dunno, Never bought or used Windows 11, I stopped at Windows XP and moved to Linux for internet use, I use XP or plain old DOS for everything else.

I use Active@ Partition Manager on XP or plain old DOS booted from a flash drive, Have a look at Active@ Partition Manager It works for me on XP.

I used a usb CF adapter and copied the packet driver to the CF card. However I couldn't copy it to a 360 kb floppy in the 5160. The file title was all scrambled.

How did you partition and format the CF card ?, Disable the ROM on the FDC card

As I mentioned I have no files of the packet driver or XTIDECFG.COM or the .BIN on floppies of any kind. I've emailed a member who sent me floppies of BACKPACK drivers to see if he will help out. Or if anyone here would.

Could I use a GQ-4x to put the BIOS on Sergey's FDC?

Yes. An EPROM programmer can be used to put floppy_bios-2.2.bin into an AT28C64B for Sergey's FDC.
Obviously, whatever EPROM programmer you get has to support the AT28C64B, the GQ-4x being an example.

According to [here]:
- The AT28C64B is the recommended make-model of EEPROM; and
- You have the option of using a 27C64 EPROM, but the problem with an EPROM is that you will not be able to reconfigure the BIOS via the "Press F2 to ..." functionality.

Don't You already have a DOS 6x boot floppy ?, Does that floppy have the FDISK and FORMAT programs on it ?. What size is your spare CF card ?
