Fully working Iconic Thinkpad 380ED circa 1997 in good to very good condition.
This laptop, WAS my childhood. It was the one I first went onto the internet with, it was the one I surfed the net using, it was the one I chatted in message forums (some of those chats were to my now wife of 9yrs), typed countless papers on for high school between games of Doom, the list goes on and on....
But, the time has come for me to pass it along to someone else who can enjoy it. I've collected WAY too many old laptops over the years. Despite the nostalgia I have for this machine, I've decided to downsize my IBM laptop collection to just my 390e and used the money to consider purchasing other vintage computers like the 5150 and matching montior I pulled from a dumpster when I was a kid (if only I'd have hung onto it). That said, here it is. Pretty bare bones, and straight forward, but would be a good starting point for someone to upgrade.
Pentium 1 166mhz MMX
16mb (yes kids, MB not GB) of ram
4gb "Hard Drive"
Windows 95 - fresh install
Internal CD and Floppy drive - Works
Original AC Adapter Included
LI-ion battery - Dead
Bad News, the battery doesn't hold a charge, and when installed, the laptop makes sort of a high pitched sound. So I took it out. Not worth a melt down. I'm positive it just needs a new battery because I borrowed one from another machine and the noise stopped, battery charged, and computer ran off the battery.
Cosmetically this machine is probably a 7 out of 10. I've seen WAY worse, but it is not perfect. The top has some surface scratches, Plus over time, the finish has began to come off on on the back corners. Check out the pictures and video.
Screen isn't scratched, but has marks where the touchpoint rubs when the lid is shut. No dead pixels, but its a little washed along the edges. It could probably benefit from being used and left on for an extended amount of time. Otherwise maybe a new LED backlight. I was going to do it, but I have WAY too many projects I'll never get to. It is still very usable as you can see in the video.
What I've done... Some 5 yeas ago or so, the hard drive stopped working, so I installed an SD to IDE card with a 4gb SD card. I also replaced the CMOS battery, and a new touchpoint.
What you see is what you get. Please if your interested, let me know. And ask me any questions you might have about it. If no one is interested, I'll put it on Ebay.
Thanks all!
