I have a creative writing group that meets on Mondays, and this older woman recently joined. Today she was telling us about her daughter, Tandy. I asked if Tandy was short for anything, and she said "No. Remember, I told you I met my husband at Radio Shack?"

Yup. Her daughter is named after the TRS-80.

An acquaintance has her children named after sport equipment companies. The daughter is Rawling, for example.

I met a young woman one time whose name was Trinity. So of course I asked and she said yes, named after the Matrix character. She said her brother was named after one of the Lord of the Rings characters.

If I named my kid Trinity it would be after the nuclear test. Trinity TRIga [lastname] actually roles off the tongue quite nicely.

Ficus Kirkpatrick is named after Ficus from the TV series "Quark"
I'll leave it to the reader to figure out who he is and what Quark was.

If we're going for processors, Pentium III works for a boy or a girl, though not particularly well.

Amber Lake
Was Amber Lake anywhere near good enough to warrant naming a child, though?

See that's the important bit. Its not just "would it make a good name?" its "Was it also awesome enough to warrant naming a child in honor of it?"

At least her younger sister Coco can pretend to her normie friends that she was named after the Chanel lady.

Worked with someone called Christian Welfare...
This has a hint of the story behind the name of Electric Light Orchestras (ELO) first album.

Story is the label or manager told their secretary to call the band for the album name.

Secretary returned a note "No Answer".

The band never got the call, so there was "No Answer". But, the name stuck and that's the name of their first album.

Similarly, our local cat shelter names their strays after the streets where they are found. "Maple", etc. I doubt many of those names stick, but you never know.

Its shockingly difficult to rename a cat. I adopted one named "Misty", when I tried to change it she made it damn clear that wasn't going to happen.
