I have over a dozen Model 4 desktop shells that I would like to bring back to original specs (ie. white painted)

Anyone out there tackled re-painting such a case? If so please share your knowledge.

The Model 3 cases might present more complications than the Model 4 case - but I am sure it can be done.

Thanks for reading

Jay

Old thread, but the link is dead. Can you tell me what paint you used?

Were the Model 4's painted originally? I know the 3's were, but I thought the 4's were just white plastic.

Model 4s were painted with a textured white paint. Model 4ps was just white plastic. This is why you see yellowed 4ps but no yellowed 4s.

Hi Jay,
I did indeed repaint my M4P in the color white.
You've seen the picture of that.
Indeed, it still looks perfect after 5 years.
I recently decided to spray paint another M4P, but now in the color Tandy silver.
This requires some good preparation, but even now the result is very good.

Here are a few tips:
Do not sand. Remove all dust and dirt. Degrease very well and let it dry.
Completely disassemble the cabinet. Tape all black parts well. Once a good covering base layer
spray. Check that all sharp edges and corners are well covered. Spray two layers of silver paint.
You can also completely disassemble the keyboard and treat it in the same way.
Good luck.
