Question for Linux simh guys, where is the program installed?

Don't forget that the SIMH device names are not necessarily the same names as the operating system calls them...

Dave
XK - KMC-11 microprocessor.. i dont think i have this must be searching for some device that i said i had

Yes, if you said that you had an XYZ device and you don't really then that will cause the invevitable error.

The driver is presumably poking it and not getting the expected response.

This usually happens when you use someone else's image and don't have the matching hardware (or SIMH environment).

This question is most likely the culprit, i will have to sysgen it again when i get the time. Have no idea why i would change the default on this but it was a long day :)

IBM 3271 or 2780/3780 simultaneous links ? <00> ~

Explanation-Each KMC-ll microprocessor controls one DUPII synchronous
line interface to the 3271 or 2780/3780 host. The 3271 is a terminal; the
2780/3780 is a remote batch job entry device. An IBM host connected to a
RSTS/E computer system can communicate with these devices as though they
were actually present because the RSTS/E Monitor emulates them. This question
asks for the number of 3271 or 2780/3780 simultaneous links you want.

Tell me about it 😀!

yea, and unfortunately i think it just died on me. it now drops to 173232 when i start the machine.. maybe the memory gave out

Do you mean after you boot it or just start it?
i pulled out all the cards and put them back in and the problem seems to have gone away. It was doing that it when i started the pdp11 in run mode, I did pull some cards to try and trouble shoot the rsts error i was getting so its possible that something wasn't fully seated which is a scary thought. Everything is good now, i wont touch anything else for a while just to be sure

Problems that just go away by themselves have a way of returning. Hopefully it was just a mis-seated card.

Yes i know that all too well from repairing cars. This is the first time its ever happened and it I just happened to be pulling cards prior to the error. I will keep my fingers crossed

I had a PDP-11/53 at work that ran great - until we did some preventative maintenance on it! It would then run like a pig for a week until it "bedded in"!

Morale of the story - don't do preventative maintenance!

Yet our 11/23, 11/73 and 11/83 - absolutely no problem whatsoever. You could strip them down, clean everything up and they would just run and run.

This was when they were new of course! I wonder where they are now? Probably scrapped...

I think i might be stuck with that rsts error message, since i used simh to build this, that tape drive doesn't actually exist but i have to leave it enabled or i can't do a sysgen. So when i put it on my real pdp11 it looks for it, i will have to check and see if there is anyway to edit that from within rsts itself.. thats just pure speculation right now. It could be something else entirely, good news is the system hasn't halted again so it probably was just a loose card from all my trouble shooting.

As far as I know even though it errors it won't cause an issue. RSTS disables the device.

RSTS when it boots is sending a packet to the 2nd port on the main board. I hooked up a serial port to watch it and sure enough the error triggers at the same time. So there is really nothing I can do about this and i expect anyone that installs 9.6 with a 11/23+ will run hit the same error unless they have a compatible device attached that can respond. I can live with this now, and I agree that this makes no difference.
