Pentium implies five, as in 586, but Intel stuck with the name because everyone joked about the next CPU generation after it being called the Sexium.
Yeah, I remember that. Unfortunately I was enough of a nerd to know that if they’d stuck to Greek it would have actually been the “Hexium”, not “Sexium”, so it fell pretty flat. (*) Which, I dunno, probably would have spawned its own jokes about it being named after an ingredient from a recipe to cast a gypsy curse.
(* Elon Musk probably thought it was hilarious.)
