tandy 1000hx with 640kb memory board and rs232 board.

Has anyone gotten this to work with a zip drive? I have the purchased utility palmzip and it works successfully with my tandy 1000tl same zipdrive and same 3 partition 32megs each disk.

It installs the util , can switch to drive d,e or f but I can never get a directory to read.

Does the rs232 card need a driver as well. Tried the different irq settings and com 1-4 as well.

The RS-232 PLUS card is a serial interface ( COMn: ), even though it has a 25 pin female connector. Zip drives use parallel interfaces( LPTn: ).

The document referenced above about building an adapter for the printer port might work.

Ok, i assumed it would work with the serial port. I guess that's it then. I'll read the suggested thread about the card edge port modification.

I had added a parallel port card to my tandy 1000tl and that works great with the zip drive. I guess I can just use that one but the Hx is more portable and hooks up to a television.

Thanks for the help.

I think I remember hearing that Tandy 1000 parallel ports aren't bidirectional so they won't work with Zip drives.

Once you get the parallel port issue straightened out replace the 8088 with a Nec V-20. That's if you intend to use the iomega drivers. The V-20 has some 186/286 instructions that the 8088 lacks. And the driver uses them.
