About a year ago I picked up a cheap, untested Satellite Pro and was lucky enough to find a working (if not slightly beat up) machine, and I've been tinkering with period-appropriate Linux on it ever since. However, recently I've been unsure about whether I should continue with restoration and upgrades, because of some issues with the old DSTN display it has. These appeared shortly after I got the machine, and I'm not sure if I caused them or not, since it was before I'd opened it up proper. The display issues manifest as colourful, CMYK lines trailing down from the top of the screen to about half-way, and a repetition of some pixels from the lower half of the screen on its upper half (see images). Also, the display sometimes becomes unreadably dark, but otherwise the bottom half is completely normal when this isn't happening. Occasionally, I start it up to find no problems at all, and when it does show artifacts, it sometimes responds to gentle adjustment of the screen angle.
This, along with the fact that it's sometimes perfectly fine, leads me to hope that the issue is with a connection, or something upstream of the display, rather than the LCD itself. But, I still don't know what the problem could be, and what steps to take past visual inspection.
I'm pretty attached to this machine - I'd wanted one of these plastic cinderblocks for ages since I have early memories of using one, so I'd hate to scrap or mothball it. Is there anything I can do about this, and if so, where should I look first? Thanks!
