I'd like to find a working hard drive for my 5150, as shuffling floppy disks all the time isn't much fun.

Either an MFM drive or hard card (then I could keep the dual-floppies!) would be perfect!

Please let me know if you have anything suitable :)

You should first modify 5150 by replacing ~63Wat PSU by XT PSU that provide ~130Wats.

I think, that the best would be if you leave the computer original 'as-is'.

I already have spare 130W PSU from dead XT :p

I think you are right about keeping it original is better, since many 5150s have been modified before. It's hard to find one with 63W PSU.

I heard you don't need higher PSU with hard card, I saw two 5150 with hard card and 63W PSU!

I have quite old full lenght controller card, but shipping...
You can't find 10 Meg hard drive?

I have guy who might have one FH drive ;). I wish it will be 10 meg one.

I have a bunch of old FM drives including a WD 125. I've been quite lazy lately but should I be pressed could test them if someone is interested. They are for sale not free. Part of my view some years ago and to recoup some of the $ I spent buying and storing my collection all these years.

I'll be using E-Pay as a guideline taking into account the vaguaries of that market, but also testing to ensure they do work. They would include cabes.

Thanks for your offer, but I have managed to find another 5150 I am picking up next weekend. This one has CGA and hard drive ;)

If anyone does have MFM drive, I think Luke would be very interested :)

if you are still looking for an MFM drive, i have a seagate ST-251... it currently resides in a 386 machine i put together, but i purchased a 16-bit ISA floppy/IDE controller to put in it instead. this old drive really slows down (as if it wasn't slow enough already) the system when accessing files.

but anyway, as i said it's a Seagate ST-251. 48 MB storage capacity. as far as i can tell, the drive still works flawlessly. i've been using it in that computer for a few months without a single hiccup. i ran a surface scan using ms-dos scandisk earlier today and it turned up zero bad sectors.

the thing is, your 5150 only has 8-bit ISA slots and the MFM controller card i am using is a 16-bit full length card so you would have to locate an 8-bit card elsewhere to use it in your XT.

just for kicks, i tried putting that 16-bit card in an old 8088 motherboard i have and of course, as expected it was unable to access any data from the drive.

what i REALLY need to get my hands on is an 8-bit ISA floppy controller and/or IDE controller so that i can finally get some use out of my 8088. i've been wanting to play some oldschool games on it like Janitor Joe (aka Jump Joe) and some others... i tried running jump joe on my 286 with the turbo turned off so it ran at 5 Mhz, and it was STILL way too fast to play at all, lol.

i also would love to use my 8088 to run the DOS IRC client software i wrote in quickbasic... (using interrupt calls to the waterloo dos tcp stack TSR... that was fun to write  )

anyway, if you are interested let me know. if you happen to have an 8-bit floppy and/or IDE controller card that my XT could use i would be very very interested in a trade.

Sure I'd be interesed in 10 mb full height drive.
ST-412 or WD10 or compatible.

There is a chance, that I'll get one in this month, but if not, I'll be interesed.
