Hi all.

I recently bought an Amstrad PC1512 with its monitor and keyboard but it doesn't seem to work. The symptoms are:-

PC fan runs but nothing displayed on the monitor screen
PC doesn't bleep or attempt to access the floppy drive
No response to keyboard input
No obvious visual damage to the motherboard
Tried putting NVR batteries in it but made no difference
Disconnecting fan made no difference

Is there a fuse or a reset button anywhere? If it was the monitor at fault then presumably the fan wouldn't work (fan similar to a processor fan has been screwed into the bottom of the case and attached with a wire to the motherboard). If it is the monitor screen rather than the power supply (which is inside the monitor) at fault then presumably it would still bleep.

Any help with this would be very much appreciated. Thanks.

Regards

Nick

Have you tried it with all expansion cards removed? Sounds like it could be a motherboard problem.

Hi, Thanks for the reply. Yes, all expansion cards have been removed. Anything else I can try?

Regards,

Nick

With the power supply attached to the motherboard, check the +5 and +12 at the device connectors. That will, at least, determine if your getting primary power out of the P/S and if it is within tolerences or not.

Must be "Amstrad-Problem-Time"...
In my stash, is a PPC640, and it powers on, sounds like it reading the floppy,
and power light / floppy light comes on, but nothing from the LCD.

Double-checked the DIP switches from an online resource, and looks OK.

Guess I will try with a CGA monitor tonight...

For the dip sw settings, it's "all down except 5 up". If 5 is down, it will look like the local screen doesn't work. I found that out the hard way.
