I have yet to see a 400 or 800 in the flesh here, but my recent re-reading and scanning of the first NZ computer magazine, New Zealand Bits & Bytes showed they were indeed sold here at the retail level.

My Atari 800XL has one of the best keyboards of the 8-bit home computers I've experienced thus far. It's feel is similar to that of the TRS-80 Model 100.

The 1200XL is even a bit nicer. I've found the best 8-bit keyboards have been on the Apple II series. Outside of the original IBM PC keyboard, those are the best early keyboards you'll find in my opinion.
