Sb16 ct2290

Just got my soundblaster 16, it is a ct2290 but the actual chip is named
ct1745a isn't that a bit funny. To the left on the ct1745a there is an open socket that i guess would be for an ASP that is missing, or is some of the 2290 delivered without it?

Was the ct4170 always PnP?
What models was the Vibra 4180, 4170 and 4171?

The CT1745 is only the mixer. I beleve that all SB16 uses that mixer, however, I migh be wrong.

The socket is for ASP, or CSP as they renamed it to.

Yes that is the one without the big chip to the left of mixer chip.
But if it is only optional than there would be no problem.

If JP 14 and JP15 is present, the ASP/DSP is disabled or not present. As you can see on my card, they are missing since the chip is permanently soldered to the board.

Not many programs used this ASP/DSP chip, and you problably only need it if you want tu run "TextAssist". TextAssist gives better text-to-speech capabilities than "Tran", but I haven't tested any other text-to-speech programs.

BTW, the CSP is named "CT1748A", and might be obtainable from sites like this: http://www.aeri.com/search/CT1748A
