I have gotten a Treasure Chest Execunote laptop computer from my Grandmother's retirees club (they were having a sale). It still works, even though i had to charge the stupid thing in a weird way, and it boots up to a certain point.

After it asks if to got to BIOS Setup, it says the Hard Drive Controller has failed and the gives an error. I have no idea if it has an Operating System on the int. HD, but i'm using it with a Dos 5 boot disk.

So the question i'm asking is if any1 knows how to fix this and/or how to open the stupid thing up so I can see inside it. I really need help with this!

The exact error message is "HDD Controller Failure, Press <F1> to Resume"

I may have the HD setting wrong, i dont know anything about the hard drive.

If anyone knows how to open the case, please say something.

"HDD Controller Failure" suggests 4 possibilities to me:

1. The hard drive controller circuitry has failed in a manner whereby it is unresponsive to the power on self test (POST) routine.

2. I'm unfamiliar with your notebook, but if the hard drive controller is on an expansion card, maybe the card is partially out of its socket or otherwise needs reseating.

3. The power on self test (POST) issued a 'do self diagnostic check' to the hard drive controller, and the controller responded that the check failed.

4. The hard drive has failed, but the power on self test (POST) reports the problem as a controller failure.

I don't know how to open the case.
