Sometime in the early 80's I shelled out about $25 for the Augat Micro-Strip wire stripper. It's been just fine, but is now showing its age (it's plastic after all).

So I went looking for a new Micro-Strip and about fell over when I saw the pricing. Too rich for me for a tool that does nothing but strip 30 AWG Kynar wire-wrap wire.

Does anyone have a favorite that works for them (i.e always removes the insulation without nicking or cutting the conductor)?

I'm looking at the OK/Jonard ST-450 stripper. It looks like it might do the job and will only set me back about 40 bucks.

Once upon a time, I tried the Clauss No-Nik stripper, but I felt that it was awkward to use.

Any opinions? Thanks!

Believe it or not, I really like the little stripper tool that came with my RadioShack wire wrap tool. The wire wrap tool has a removable cap on the end that goes against your palm, and the slim little stripper fits inside the hollowed out handle of the tool. I think this tool was $7 and they still sell them. I must have stripped at least 500 ends with it and it's still going strong. I have read other folks thoughts on this tool - it's an amazing value.

For $7, that's a heck of a deal even for a manual wrap tool. I'll check it out--the RS web site says it's in stock at my local store.
