I'm pretty angry now. Can somebody help me confirming if it is just MY XT or the XTs in genreal?

What I would like you to do is:
1. set up an XT with a MDA and a CGA card with a mono monitor connected to the MDA (System board SW1; nr 5 & 6 = off).
2. Boot PC DOS 2.1.
3. Run speed600 from a 360Kb floppy disk.

I don't think speed600 should have problems with 8088s, and it's the same sympthoms as before, starting to load, and the computer locks up while the disk drive keeps spinning.

I also use speed600 and found it does have some compatability
problems with older machines. It locks up on my XT clone if
the turbo button is on (10Mhz). But if I turn turbo off, and
run speed600 it works, and I can turn turbo on while speed600
is running and see the speed increase.

I was having some problems with speed600 on my 10Mhz V30 for a while. It turned out that there was something wrong with my FPU. I bought a C8087-1 in China, and I think it may have been a remarked chip. If I tried to run Speed600 at 10MHz with the FPU installed the system would lock up. I replaced the FPU with a D8087-1 and now everything is fine. Weird.

Where can I get this mythically terrible speed600 benchmark? I cursory google search shows nothing, and I want to run it on my hardware to compare to what I have planned for my own.

Edit: Never mind, found out you guys were talking about Landmark benchmark version 6.00, a notoriously horrible benchmark.

If we're talking about vintage benchmarks, doesn't anyone use Norton SI?

I got it there.

Check out the x87 diagnostics program there too. For some reason, my dual-core laptop fails one of the tests there, but that's off topic.
