Those are good tips Matt. Thanks for compiling that info. Hopefully when it cools down a bit later this year I'm going to try something similar. I have the same problem and want to archive my media while it's still good, then use copies.

Tandy Model II BASIC

Hi Matt,

Since you have your Model II up and running, I'm wondering what kind of Tandy software you might have at your disposal. Back around 1981-82, I was instrumental in having my company purchase a Model II with the seperate 3 drive console, thus a 4 drive system. My main responsibility at that time was to write a material work flow processing program in BASIC - which I did accomplish. The company and the Model II are no longer. However, I still have the souce code which I am attempting to resurrect. I could port it over to MS GW-BASIC but it would loose some of its flavor - you know, the neat little instructions like PRINT@ where you select the pixel where you want to execute your line at. What I'm looking for is a copy of Model II BASIC which I would like to adapt, if possible, to my 1000SX. I don't think I want to get into the 8 inch drive scenario, but I certainly admire what you have done. If you have a line on Model II BASIC, I would appreciate it.

Hmm. This might be helpful getting my system running.
This also works with a 5 1/4" drive installed in the external three bay floppy expansion chassis, right?

Yes. Although you will probably need an external power supply anyway so I would find an old SCSI case and convert it for this purpose.

I was actually thinking of just making an edge card adapter. That is assuming I read all the stuff above properly and you can do something like that to save yourself having to make another ribbon cable.

Not sure I understand what you mean there: From the external floppy port you can go directly to a drive with a single cable. I'm assuming the external 8" drives are like the internal and lack the +12 volts needed for the 5" drives.

Yes, the ribbon cable that comes out of the Model II and goes into the expansion box is essentially just an extension to the ribbon cable for the floppy drive inside the system. The only real thing I have to do is add in an additional PSU for the floppy drive. and I have plenty of space in the expansion case for that.
