Maybe we should dissalow users with lesser than x posts or newer than x days to link images...

All I did was just click the thread to see what it was and Avast detected malicious behavior. I never clicked the image.

Just report the thread as spam please. The moderators will take care of it quicker if we get an email alert, which is generated when you report a post.

There is only one problem. Since our computers are exposed to virus just by opening the thread, there is no way for us to report it as spam in a secure way.

Well, there isn't anything we can do to protect you from a virus. You need proper virus protection for that, and if you are going to rely on warnings from others you are in a seriously dangerous position.

Opening another thread to warn people about a post that will probably be deleted within 10 minutes just creates more noise and work for the moderators.

I do got proper virus protection, but I still don't like to expose my computer to viruses.

Anyways... I will suggest that there should be a "report thread" function from the topic index page, so you don't really need to open the thread to report. Else, an option just as good is that we should have the ability to open a thread in a "no images" mode (That would be great for users having slow internet speed too).

This is possible with Avant Browser and Firefox. Not sure about IE, will check this later.

Avant, you can disable images as well as various other things in the options.

Firefox, you can set permissions (right-click on the page, select View Page Info, then select Permissions). If you're worried about malicious content in images you can disable them :)

I don't know what OS you're using and which browsers you have, but I just checked Galeon and Dillo which both have an easy way to turn off images. I didn't check Epiphany, Konqueror, or Opera, but Firefox also does just fine. My first thought would be to use a text browser if you really have that much trouble with dangerous images, but I just tried both links and elinks and it was quite difficult to navigate this site. Anyway, Firefox works safely and surely you can run that on your preferred OS. Just a thought, but perhaps you should also look at your permissions. :)

hey Mike, i think we can safely assume we all have proper virus protection. However, exposing your machine to viruses via the internet is still not good. You are right that there is nothing that the staff can do to prevent it. However, do realize that the OP was only doing what he thought was best.

And I'm just merely pointing out that starting another thread to warn people about a bad thread just adds to our workload without providing any real value. Flagging the post sends a message to all of the moderators and admins (a total of five of us) - and we react pretty quickly, so there is very little chance that other people will see it.

And honestly, if the title of the thread is so obvious then nobody should be touching it.

Your machine is getting exposed all of the time, especially if your are on anything except a dialup connection. We don't write or maintain the vBulletin software so we have limited options on what to do.
