Hello from Bucharest

I'm Vladimir, a 31 yo radiologist with a passion for PC hardware I've seen (and worked with) almost every kind of PC, from 286 to PIV.

Given the fact that my native language is Romanian, I hope you'll forgive my poor English spelling...

I'm NOT a collector, I repair old PCs (usually PIIs, PIIIs and AMD Duron/Athlons, but occasionally older models and frequently using old parts) and donate them to poor children. I'm not alone in this, we are a small gang of crazy hardware amateurs and we're doing it just for fun, on our own money + some occasional old parts donations from other users on the ComputerGames.ro forum. In this gang I'm the old computers "specialist"... maybe because I'm not so young myself

I'm here to seak (and give) advice on old PC components, to identify antiquities and to enjoy the company of other people who remember that there was a 286 before the Pentium IV... (many younger people never hared about MS-Dos, FPM SIMMs, ISA ports, etc.)

I enjoy messing around with the old stuff again (just fell back into the hobby in the last few months) but I'd be lying if I told you I didn't like today's 'Plug-n-Pray' hardware

Well, if you have a new project, everyone here always enjoys some (links to) pictures I think

Very nice work you're doing. The company I work for does similar things with our old systems instead of scrapping them they're usually donated to a school in Mexico or place that will end up redistributing them to lower class families. It's nice to know these (still very useful) machines don't end up in a landfill just because of software lag
