Hey all I'm Chris.

I stumbled upon this site when I was Google-ing old computers. I enjoy collecting old computers and especially old Apple/Macintoshes (though none of mine are really vintage, my oldest is a performa 6116Cd) I also have bins of PC parts from old 486s and Pentiums clear up to P4s. But I really want some of the computers my dad used to have, such as the apple IIc, a Tandy, an Atari as well as the numorus video game consoles that he had.

My other hobbies are restoring old lawn mowers/old engines, model railroading, and firefighting (though firefighting may be more of a thing I like to do than a hobby.)

Hiya Chris

Personally I love old machines like these. Welcome to the forums.

Welcome to the forums! Firefighting as a hobby? Good luck with acquiring some of the systems. A beginner tip (one I didn't follow but if I had followed would have tons less clutter) stick to your list of systems to collect and have a reason why before you buy. The big mistake most of us make is taking in anything we can find. That's fun for a while until your storage space fills up and then you're stuck with lots more to collect than you anticipate.

Regardless, enjoy and you'll surely find some stuff here to acquire :)

Welcome Chris. I don't have any working Macs that are truly "vintage," but I have a pile of LC-series and similar, and a couple of working Macintosh Powerbook 170 laptops. I'll be dumping the LCs some day eventually...

I also have a couple of non-working Macintosh II-GS (as I recall) that need to be stripped for parts. Might have a card or something that someone could use. Hopefully get to that soon, since I'm swimming in 'stuff'. :(

My favorite Mac of all time is a G3 Beige running MacOS9. That machine is not pretty but the construction and operation is an absolute dream, and the OS was the apex of Macintosh development (IMO of course). My goal is to get the G3 dual-booting with BeOS PPC. Have you any experience with that?

I am sorry But I don't have any experiance with dual booting with BeOS PPC. And I am not too filmillar with BeOS what is it? But I do have to agree that My Beige G3 Tower is my favorite Mac that I own. Mine only boots in OS9. Do you have a Desktop or a Tower?

Mine is the tower.

I was mistaken about the G3 being able to run BeOS; it's a slightly older PowerComputing clone that I'm working with BeOS on.

BeOS was an alternative operating system - simple and fun to run, and more responsive than any other OS of it's time. It originally started as a PPC-centric product, was later released for PC, and later versions were PC-only. Dispite being marketed as a PPC-oriented product, it was actually very particular with regards to installation on Macs - the computer couldn't be too old, couldn't be too new, couldn't install or boot independantly without MacOS (had to launch via a Mac control panel item), and there was never much software written for the PPC version.
