These are the ones that came to mind, and some others I was able to find... are there any other notable "celebrity endorsers" of home computers in the 1980s?

Commodore VIC-20... William Shatner
Texas Instruments TI-99/4A... Bill Cosby
Atari... Alan Alda
Compaq... John Cleese
NCR Decision Mate V... Dom DeLuise
Tomy Tutor... Sarah Purcell
Intellivision... George Plimpton (yeah, I know it's not really a computer... but they did eventually release a very limited "keyboard attachment" for it!)

The guy who played Chaplin was Billy Scudder.... he's not really famous like the previous actors etc, but he seems to be quite popular still.

By saying "Apple is the appliance of the 80's for all of those pesky household chores", Cavett's not giving an endorsement? What am I missing?

I'll give you that they mostly used Costner's image. And that Apple isn't a computer. But showing Costner using one definitely is an endorsement.

1985: Alan Greenspan and Apple IIc

Anyway, does anybody know the name of this voiceover guy? He was certainly widely heard in the '80s and '90s. Lexus used a very similar sounding announcer for their TV ads, but I don't think it was the same guy.

Atari... Alan Alda...

And minus Alan Alda from the characters of M*A*S*H doing IBM PS/2 advertising...

Amiga: Tip O'Neill, Little Richard, The Pointer Sisters, Tommy LaSorda, Buzz Aldrin, Scott Carpenter, and one other astronaut (Gordon Cooper?)...all in one ad. SFX by Amiga and ILM. ;)

"Can you hear me, Stevie? Can you heeear me, Steeeevie?" - Little Richard

"Stevie, you rodent." - neighbor girl (different ad from same campaign.)

Nifty. I have a copy of the ads on half inch tape that I got from folks at Amiga at the time. I love when the mother hands O'Neill a drumstick taken from the father's hand, and O'Neill stands holding it, dumbstruck.
