Sorry about cross posting, but I don't know how many people here also visit 68kmla.

I'll be soldering on a write-protect override toggle on a second attempt (hopefully I won't kill the drive this time) and I wanted a second opinion from anyone who's done this before with a UniDisk floppy drive.

I'm doing the modification on a UniDisk not a Disk ][, using these instructions. The UniDisk instructions are near the bottom.

Here're pictures of my work. I'm sorry I can't get any clearer, I don't have a good camera. The red wire runs from the board-edge-side of the J29 wire to pin 1 of my 3-way toggle. The black wire runs from the board-edge-side of the R12 resistor to pin 3 of my 3-way toggle.

I have almost zero experience with soldering and absolutely no knowledge of electronics, so this is all very, very new to me. It was also very fun. I got to use my Dremel to modify the plastic to fit my switch on it.

Yes! That is exactly what I wanted. The instructions I was following did not include this very important step:

Of course if you really want the protect/ normal/ enable modes, get a Single Pole, double throw, center off switch. Solder wires to the three leads and mount the switch. Cut the wire to pin 9 on CN1 (orange). Solder the connector end to the center wire of the switch, hook the other end of the wire from the sensor to one end wire from the switch. Hook the last switch wire to J29. (One last tip, sometimes the center wire is called 'common'.)

Switch
Orange wire from bundle ----O
Orange wire to CN1 ----O
J29 ----O

Yay! I got it to format an unnotched floppy. :D

When I set the toggle to Write Protect, ADT freezes when it attempts to format. I don't know if that's ADT or if it's my floppy. I assumed it'd get an I/O error instead, but it didn't.

Setting my switch to middle makes it work like normal. :)

Turns out that's a bug in ADTPro. Looks like your switch is working correctly.

Update: the code's been fixed, and it will be in the next release (whenever that decides to happen). Thanks for the heads-up. It's been broken that way forever - I guess people don't normally try to format write-protected disks. ;-)
