IBM 5155 that needs some TLC

I have a coworker who's retiring and looking to sell his old IBM 5155 luggable. The video is non-functional, so at the very least it will need some attention in that area. I've seen the machine and it will need some cleanup, but it's in reasonable physical condition.

He's looked into what 5155s go for on eBay, but since his has a video problem, he's open to, as they say, reasonable offers.

If anyone's interested, PM me and I'll put you in touch with him.

Prices vary.

I just got one of those along with printer, carry case, CGA monitor, lots of software, etc. I paid nothing for it, so you can add that to your list of quotes for what people pay for these things. The person I got it from wasn't using it any more, so I guess that explains the price. :) However, I suspect since the one you are looking at doesn't actually work, then the current owner isn't using it either.

I have a way of looking at these things:
- If the person is in business then they can ask anything they want, but they have to ask it.
- If they're not in business, then the obligatory $20 bill is usual.
- if they are really poor and need money, then whatever you can afford to give them.

Condition, accessories, etc. would help to. Is there video problems but he has the original box, packing material, etc. or is it beat up dirty and video doesn't work? Pictures are of course worth a 1000 words and are a lot easier to post then a 1000 words ;)

Broadly concurring with the above, basically if it doesn't actually work then its value will be minimal. If you can test the drives, motherboard etc somehow (for example by hooking up an external monitor) then breaking it for those parts might be worth the bother. If you have the blue canvas bag, I for one would be very interested!
