Greetings!

I need one disk to complete my collection.

It must be an original 3.5inch with
"Windows ver 3.1 Disk 7 of 7"
written on the label.

And there was too a Disk 7 in Europe!

Will pay cash.

I have 3 complete sets of 3.5" Windows 3.1 and each set consists of 6 disks. A possibility of a 7th disk may have been offered though a specific vendor.

I also have a set of 6 3.5" Win3.1 disks, however there is a hand labelled #7 with drivers. I also have a distinct memory of there being a factory labelled 7th one, I just can't seem to find one right now. Another hand-labelled disk set has a 7 as well. However, I have here a complete, factory labelled, set of Win3.0 3.5" disks and there are 7 of those. (Not bad for a DOS guy eh?) :)

OK, I did a bit of looking at the disks. Disks 1 to 6 have a file with the disk number on it. Here is a partial listing of disk 6 and the file is the same as the name.
Code:
. . .

 DECLPS20 WP_ 1533 3-10-92 3:10a A
 DICONIX DR_ 2201 3-10-92 3:10a A
 DISK6 8 3-10-92 3:10a A
 DM309 DR_ 3225 3-10-92 3:10a A
 DMCOLOR DL_ 14744 3-10-92 3:10a A

. . .

Disk 7 however does not have such a file. BUT, here are the first lines of a dir output:
Code:
 OEMSETUP INF 18924 3-09-92 12:00p A
 PRINTER2 WRI 9088 3-09-92 12:00p A
 BASE9 DRV 2443 3-09-92 12:00p A

. . .

Looking at the top of that first .inf file we see this:
Code:
[disks]
6 =. ,"Microsoft Windows 3.1 Disk #6",disk6
7 =. ,"Microsoft Windows 3.1 Disk #7",disk7

[io.device]
7:BASE9.DRV,6:UNIDRV.DLL,"Generic Epson FX-85 9pin","DEVICESPECIFIC"
7:BASE9.DRV,6:UNIDRV.DLL,"Generic Epson FX-85 9pin wide","DEVICESPECIFIC"
7:LQBASE24.DRV,6:UNIDRV.DLL,"Generic ESC/P 24pin","DEVICESPECIFIC"

. . .

So, that file clearly references a disk number 7.

I notice Disk 7(s) files are uncompressed and what does PRINTER2.WRI say?
Wondering if it's a printer supplement disk. I have a 4th MS DOS 6.22 disk like that, genuine and labelled but not actually part of a normal install so structure etc is different.

(Sorry that doesn't help I'm just curious now)

Yes the format is different, and so is the date, which is earlier. I can't quite get a grip on who put out this disk. There is some odd code which I guess is Wingobbledeygook text formatting, but here is the top of the PRINTER2.WRI file:

After further review . . .

I went back though the tub and found a DELL 3.1 disk. It's labeled "English Microsoft Mouse V9.01. But, this disk has a Dell copywrite and was probably tossed in the box when you bought the PC.

My only 3.5 win 3.1 disk set is 6 disks on Osbourne branded disks I bought new about 1994 at a discounted price. Can't ever recall seeing any more than that in the standard retail set.

I have a Dell set that has 7 disks of Windows 3.1. I dug them out this morning but it will be tomorrow before I can check directories, make images, take pics, etc. Hey sponge.belly, where are you located?

Nice, I have that same dell set, missing 2 diskettes that went bad years ago. I love to have a complete copy for my Dell! :D

My disks clearly say "For DOS systems" so it's hardly surprising really ;)

Very funny. :) But that was the time when DOS folks started differentiating from Windows folks. IOW, those that refused the increased control of user space by MS and those that didn't care or welcomed it.

Anyway, it's been almost 24 hours now and nobody's come up with a factory labelled 7th disk. So I guess it's either not part of the distribution or perhaps, as someone suggested, vendor provided.

Guess what I hold in my hands at the moment... Lucky #7 I believe. The other disks are labeled 1-6, so this has to be 7! ;)

Problem though. I cant image it! Seems the little metal part that spins the media has separated from the media. I'm not sure how to fix this, any ideas? I never had to repair a 3.5" diskette before.

I'm not sure what you're saying. The "other disks" are labelled 1-6, but number 7 is not labelled?

The OP is looking for an original factory labelled disk, not a copy. That's how the discussion arose, since he claims that it exists (which it well may) but the rest of us can't find one. I and others, have copies that read, but we don't have the label.

Trust me its disk 7. It came in the windows set, 6 disks plus this one... I can take a picture if needed. I remember it having a few dell wallpapers among other things been forever. Came with my dell xps 486 4/66v. I will have to repair the diskette to get the files off. After that if he wants it he can contact me, unless someone else has one. Sure beat not having one! *shrug

I certainly trust you. :) But if it no longer has the label, which is what you seem to imply and why I asked, then taking a picture would not be very useful, and it is not what the OP is looking for.

Who said it doesn't have a label ? I said the disk media has separated from the drive cog... Feel free to research disk 7. You'll see on dell there are multiple versions, depending which system you purchased. Hence why I also posted the separate PN. Willing to bet money GottaLottaStuff's says the same thing, in bold blue lettering , just a different PN... (unless he got a value system, which sometimes were just black and white, like the ms-dos diskettes) :p

Disk 7 is labeled Windows 3.1 Enhancements

And if I dig more, I have a copy of Dell windows 3.1 on cdrom w/ msdos! I received both copies, my machine had a 3x NEC scsi caddy load cdrom and sb awe32 premium package. Drive died years ago though. :(

Ive owned I think 6 dells in the windows 3.11 era, from a 386SLC laptop of firey death (seriously, they were recalled for catching on fire just humming along on your lap! ROFL! ) to a P90.

Ah, those were the days, when different Microsoft factions were dissing each other, not like today when they're all lumped together as lusers who made a pact with the devil...

FWIW (and this has to be the only time ever that I agree with Orange on anything ;-) ) I have several sealed NIB W3.1 packages and they only contain 6 disks, but it was not unusual for OEMs and even Microsoft to issue supplemental disks where today they would just put it up as a download on the 'web. Unless someone comes up with a Microsoft labelled disk 7 it looks like they were supplied by OEMs, specifically only Dell by the looks of it so far.
