I am curious as all hell. What is considered cheap for a good tested working 486,586 MOBO? I just looked at a kickbutt 2/3 Baby AT board for 60 bucks with all the cables and ports along with a 133Mhz Socket 7 CPU, 4-72 PIN DRAM slots that will hold up to a 128mb, (it only comes with 16mb) 4-PCI slots, 3-ISA slots, the CPU heatsink/fan, and clean as a whistle. And its a name brand MOBO; hell the seller has even went to the trouble to locate a PDF of the manual and the shipping is cheap. If I had not just bought some other stuff along with those XT-IDE PCB's I sent the money off for Sunday I would "JUMP ON IT" just to have it for a spare! But hey that's just me. So I ask; what is considered cheap here at this camp?

thats pretty cheap i have seen them go for 30.00-200.00 just depends i guess ebay is higher price becuase of fees and what not and also on ebay theres a bigger demand the price of 486s mobos are going up becuase of scrapers but now people are relizeing that they are worth more then a few dollars in gold so there is a big demand on ebay but there also is a big supply

Well hell there are some on there for probably $400; or at least that is what they are asking sometimes, but I don't think they sell too often if at all. The only way I would give that much for one is if maybe it was Bill Clinton's (AKA-Slick Willy) MOBO from his old computer and it was signed by him with a COA. Well I don't think anybody is going to come up off of a GIGABYTE 586 board for any less than that tested and G'TD to work. But as they say, "On any given Sunday."

ya thats pretty cheap for a name brand plus gigabyte makes beast motherboards i have one in my core i7 extreme pc i am debateing on wheather to snag this mobo what do you think? i get the mobo, card and a 3.50 floppy drive the case is shot to hell though

Yea that's gotta be a 286 or at best a 386 board for sure I would think with that ole Quadtel BIOS in it. But I think it would run WIN 3.1 or maybe even WIN-95 with a little help.
I thought you said the seller said he would eat the shipping charges back and give you a refund if it does not work. Hell, I don't see how you could go wrong unless you just don't feel like having your money out on the street hoping he is good on his word. Nobody ever gives me deals like that; I guess I'm not living right or something!
You don't come across those ole 286 boards too often anymore unless its a Tandy, IBM or some other massed produced system which are generally cheap at present. From the way you talk about cheap I suspect your not going to give more than $20 for the thing if that. So like I said, how can you go wrong if the guy is willing to take it back and on top of that pay for the shipping back. It sounds like to me he is the one taking all the risk on this one.

i am not worried about it not working he seems like a honest seller and would be good to his word what i ment is do you think 27.00 is a good deal
it kinda looks like a jaton though http://redhill.net.au/b/b-92.html
I can't answer that for ya but if it were me and the shipping was cheap to where I am, yea, I would go for it just for the kicks of bring her back to life.
Of course I live in Southern Cal out in the desert and $27 doesn't get ya much. I can blow that on a gallon of milk, pack of generic smokes, a two liter Sprite, and maybe a snack cake for my grandson. I have really taken a beating since having to come out here three yrs. ago when my wife passed away while out here with our daughter. I have had to re-learn what a buck is worth. At the time I was in the CIS course at the college back in Huntsville with the V.A. footing the bill. I am hoping to get my daughter and her little boy along with myself back East in a few months. It sure would give me more for my dollar!

shipping is free:) ya i am in michigan we are planning to move to ca though just dont know when and i am suppose to be "selling off my collection" but hell i am sure nobody will notice one more computer:) i am just trying to imagine what the board will look like cleaned up and in that case:) ya i heard ca is expensive is the pay good there?

I guess as far as wages are concerned it would be as patcc stated to a great degree. California is a big state ya know. Personally I am retired. Out here where I am about the only real good jobs I would think would be at the Northrop plant or at the Lockheed Martin SkunkWorks facility. new jobs are thin for the most part from what I hear from people on the train when I take it in to L.A. to get to the Veterans Hospital. Its summer now and a lot people find jobs at the amusement parks; but those are seasonal jobs. They do have that state minimum wage thing here of $8.00 and I beleive I red somewhere that Sanfransisco has a $10.24 minimum that went into effect in Jan. 2012. Let's just say that, (I don't want to P' anybody off from Ca.) its not exactly like the movies and 90120 around here where I am and for the most part its not exactly 90120 in 99% of what you see here. I was floored when I got out to L.A. and found that they have an entire district named Skidrow and its listed on the G'damn map that way; hell its like their proud of it. Its kind of like watching one of John Carpenters' old films, spooky man. So I guess its like anywhere else; if your an engineer working for Northrop your going to make more than the guy down at the Mickey D's. Its the same where I am from in the south. If your an engineer at Redstone Arsenal your making more than the guy down at Mickey D's! If I had a family and all that I wouldn't even think about scooting out here unless I had a JOB lined up before I got here; of course that is just me.

Well, I agree with Knuckledragger, however, here in the Midwest, the job situation is pretty awful. If I had had the means in the past few years, I would have high-tailed it out of here based on only a rumor of a potential job elsewhere.
