Tandy SL garbled text

So I got my Tandy 1000 SL today, cleaned it and fixed it. The seller sold it as working and it did still work after I cleaned it.
I copied the tandy slsetup program onto a 5.25 floppy and loaded it. I changed the memory diagnostics on startup to check the chips and the settings saved to eeprom successfully. When I turn off and back on the system the memory test came up correct at 640k but after that the screen gave all this garbled text and some changing digits in hex code. After 30 secs it stops and the screen goes blank. I cannot boot a disk or the internal HD. Do any of you know what is happening?

It could be that the diagnostics detects bad memory, try reseating the RAM chips in their sockets. If that does not fix the problem, the settings you wrote to the EEPROM may be bad. The EEPROM in an SL is an 8-pin chip located at U17. The solution here to reset the EEPROM probably will work : http://www.oldskool.org/guides/tvdog/RLRLX.html
