So I know we don't talk about movies much here, but I gotta talk:

If Wreck-It Ralph is playing within fifty miles of you, GO SEE IT.

It doesn't just have cameos from a buttload of video-game characters; it actually builds some damn good jokes around its "arcade world" conceit. But much more importantly, it's not just a movie with some damn good video-game jokes - it's a really good movie, period. One of the guys over on CHUD said it felt like more of a Pixar movie than Brave, and he was right on.

Ladies and gentlemen, the proverbial "good video-game movie" has finally been made.

It should feel just like Pixar. It's a film by Mr Pixar himself - Mr Lasseter. Though not sure why it was produced under the Disney Animation moniker.

I do agree. Fantastic film!

Ooh.. I can't wait until February or whenever it is it will premiere in this part of the world. Actually it surprised me there will be a four month delay, as it seems the overdubbing is at least partly done already, and that most other international movies of today have a world wide premiere or at best are delayed by a few weeks.

I missed the first ten or fifteen mins. Had to use the bathroom before sitting down.

I was pleasantly surprised. Very. That dastardly villain! That bungling bad guy turned hero! And that cute lil' girl in the candy world who understands everything...

Ah, I saw the trailer for it during another movie with the kids but had forgotten the name. Thanks for bringing it up. Is it good enough for theater prices or one that I should wait for redbox? Not sure about who put it out but Disney owns Pixar so depending on how they feel I imagine they probably like taking the credit. Disney's weird though.. sorta crappy like other big bully companies, they'll buy the US rights for movies (like Myazaki) and then tie up the release dates so they can put out the same movie and wait on his so it looks like a knock off (or never comes out). Anyway sorry for the rant lol I always think about Pixar and Disney duking it out with Antz vs Bugs Life.

It's definitely worth seeing in the theater. It's a Disney production, but I know at least John Lasseter was in the credits, and it feels more like a solid Pixar entry than anything Disney's put out in the last decade or so - same focus on character and theme while not neglecting the fun in the least. Also, oddly enough, its humor sensibilities almost kinda strike a Muppets vibe with me...

The inaccuracies were a little bothersome, and half of the film focused on candy references rather than arcade games, but other than that, good stuff.

Maybe it couldn't be marketed as a Pixar film because John Ratzenberger wasn't in it.

Real muppets, or disney muppets? I never saw the disney muppets. The lack of Frank Oz means something is terribly wrong.

The Muppet Movie and Muppet Show Muppets. I haven't seen the 2011 movie, but The Muppets' Wizard of Oz (also Disney) left an awfully bad taste for it to wash out...

I liked it. Of course, I was waiting with baited breath for the movie to come out. So much so I just never realized it was a 'kids' movie and didn't think about all the youngsters being there on opening day lol.

Lol! So I see it a second time. My friend was tearing up a lot and saying things to the screen. But I'd already seen it the week prior or so... I admit it. It was a Disney movie and I used to think Disney was this evil corporation that made kiddie stuff. So I missed out on a lot of good movies. I did see Mulan and Lilo & Stitch but many, many movies prior to that I hadn't. (I also watched The Black Cauldron & Sword in the Stone.)

The one movie from Disney that won me over was "Meet the Robinsons."

I also watched The Black Cauldron
Now you should go play the game :)

Home sweet home.

I played the game on my Tandy then I watched the movie so I could figure out a way to beat the game. :D The game playing was easily fifteen years before buying the movie. :D

EDIT: The Tandy version is superior to the PC version because you see the vision Hen Wen has of the Horned King in it. It surprised me when I played a little of the DOS version on Al Lowe's humor site that you don't see this...

I'm curious what inaccuracies you noticed. One of the things that struck me was how accurate some of it was -- most importantly, the rendering of the phosphors on the arcade screens not only had accurate triads but were also in the correct orientation! And the use of quarters on the backglass to reserve games was a nice touch, although that was something done usually by teenage boys and not preteen girls. I also thought it was cute how the four main characters were partially modeled after the actors that play them (Silverman's character has her eyebrows, Lynch's character looks like a younger version of herself, etc.)

The story itself was somewhat meh; I didn't really start to care about the characters until the second half of the movie.

"Game Console" instead of "Arcade Cabinet."

That, and they refer to the rail shooter Jane Lynch's character comes from as an FPS. Also, it's entirely possible for Sarah Silverman's character to be on the cabinet and not in the game; last-minute content cuts are not uncommon in video games. Then there's the the obvious, with Zangief being refered to as a villain, and Sonic being in an arcade (while Sonic did make it into a few arcade games, none of them would be worthy of still be plugged in today).

Well, Zangief explains himself well... His motives for being there are hardly the most heroic sounding. He would be what I'd call a "wannabe."

Saw it this weekend with the kiddies, not that I needed them there as an excuse or anything.

Loved the movie. The references to all points in the gaming universe as well as so many other geeky sources were too much fun.
