Hi all me again with a new problem. When I do a csave the data is going to the tape and has been verified with a small audio amplifier. However there doesn't seem to be anything going into the TRS-80 when doing a cload. If I hook up the small amplifier I can hear the audio coming from the cassette but get no asterisk's on the screen no mater what volume level I set. Also same happening with program Playcas.exe. What I can tell is that it does seem to go through the comparator at Z4. Any help always appreciated.

What kind of programs are you trying to load from cassette? The Model III and 4's cassette interface normally runs at 1500 baud, while the Model I uses 500 baud. So if you try to load a Model I program on a Model III or 4, the computer will completely ignore it (no flashing asterisks) unless you switch it into 500 baud mode. This can be done by typing: POKE 16913,0

And to go back to 1500 baud mode, type: POKE 16913,1

You say it's going to the tape and verified by a small audio amp... but have you attempted to play it back on the tape recorder to see if you can hear it THERE?
You have to hook up an amp to hear it on the PLAYER? If so, you should be using a more-or-less 'normal' cassette player. It seems you aren't getting any response because you don't have enough output volume... ?

Just some thoughts...

Hi leeb, yes it was operator error didn't have volume high enough. And yes it was coming out of the tape recorder. All good now.

Radio Shack recommends setting the tape recorder's volume and tone controls to mid position, but I found I had to set the volume on mine slightly higher to get reliable results when loading programs.
