Is this new to you or can you validate that it worked previously?

I'm a little skeptical of the RAM you have... since they all appear to be physically different. I would probably start with the minimum configuration of RAM and work from there. You should need only 4 SIMMs installed, and they should all be the same geometry to work properly. The four slots closest to the front of the motherboard are bank A and that should be all you need to boot.

Google 'simasimac' for more clues.

hello,
thanks for your answer.

i ve test your suggestion but the problem is the same.
i insert only four ram modules with the same memory size and chip (1mbit Siemens)
but the same error.

some more tips, hints?

thanks

Macs are QUITE particular about RAM, this COULD be all RAM related. I would be sure you have 4 IDENTICAL SIMMs in the first bank, I have always used the 9 chip (usually indicates parity memory, which is NOT required) or 8 chip SIMMs in my Macs with great success, I have had issues with a lot of newer 2 and 3 chip memory SIMMs. While this isn't any kind of scientific test saying it wont work, its just been my experience with these vintage macs.

That said, you could also be looking at damage from leaking caps, when you say "first picture: recap logic board" does that mean you HAVE recapped it? or you want to know if that could cause this? I only ask because your caps still all look factory. Be sure to CLEAN the board as well, any leaked fluid from the caps will cause damage to the board.

Your pictures don't show a PRAM battery. I can't recall if the SE/30 is one of those models where a battery is absolutely necessary to boot, but there are a few models where it is.

They are not. I just powered up one this week w/out a PRAM battery.

OP: Have you posted this on 68kmla? They're much more dedicated to machines like this so someone there might be able to help.

Hello,
first thanks a lot for the answers.

1) The picture ist the board with brand new capacitors. i change all the smd capacitors and clean the board with alcohol.
2) The RAM Modules are the same, all the first 4 modules are siemens with the same chip.
3) i cant post on 68kmla becauce my account is still inactive, i wrote an email @admin but still no answer :-/

some other ideas?

thx a lot

1. Ok, gotcha, most people go to ceramic caps, or just use whatever radial caps they have lying around, never seen one recapped using the same stock SMD aluminum caps. Thus my question.
2. Are those RAM SIMMs tested and verified working? (I only push the issue because bad RAM can easily cause these symptoms)
3. I am not a member over at 68kmla (but I do lurk), I would bet they will get back to you sooner or later, its all hobby for most of us on these forums, so sometimes it takes a bit for a response.

Another basic thing to try if you haven't would be to re-seat and clean the contacts on the ROM SIMM.

Beyond this, I don't have much more experience with this type of failure, but there are a few mac hardware gurus here on the forum, I am sure they will stop by this thread and impart their wisdom on us. Hopefully something silly and obvious ;-)

Sometimes it takes a few weeks to become a member on 68kmla...

The only thing I can suggest is re-cleaning the board and double checking the work and looking for more corrosion.

Hello,

That's a new one to me, I am not familiar with that card. It could certainly be that it disables the internal CRT, but I am not sure, most other video cards for the SE/30 allowed it to make use of internal AND an external display (and some upgraded the internal display to 8-bit grayscale along with an external color).
