Ok, I just got my 486 SXLC2 Microprocessor in today, and after some problems, I have reached a point where I need to come to you guys.

I had no problems removing the old 386SX processor from the laptop (still works too!).

However, the first time I put it in, it seemed too tight of a fit (It's the same size and pin count, a 100-pin QFP.), and the computer would not stabilize when turned on, and sometimes it would not even hand control off to the Zenith System ROMS because the CPU was not detected.

After finding that the pins of the chip carrier were dirty, I cleaned them, but still no help.

What happens is the system does turn on (power supply is good), but it's as if someone were holding down CTRL+ALT+DEL. It starts up with the message "Bad Configuration Data found in CMOS!" (Expected, since I removed the battery and thought the problem lay in the CPU unable to start because of CMOS incompatibility.), but the screen flashes and blinks in and out as if it were resetting.

The bracket catches are still slipping and it seems too tight to fit the CPU, even though the CPU is the exact same size as the previous one!

Ok, after testing and testing and TESTING, I thought the pins slipping were the culprit, but it doesn't seem so. I don't see any problems with contact, though.
