Bought my first Tandy 1000. Need help valuing The Amazing SpiderMan game.

So I bought a Tandy 1000 today with keyboard and monitor in pretty good condition, along with a couple of IBM/DOS/Tandy games for $20.00.

King's Quest V was easy enough to locate a value for on eBay, but this The Amazing SpiderMan game doesn't show up anywhere. Do I have a gem? Or is it just not in demand?

I didn't plan on selling the Tandy when I got it, but after bringing it home to our small apartment, my girlfriend freaked. She's right though. There is no room for it... :( Any advice on a good venue to sell these types of vintage computers?

I dunno if morgue is quite right but Mike Brutman and Andrew Lynch have certainly been keeping it stocked.

Thank you everyone for the suggestions and information.

The Tandy has been posted for sale.

Please close/delete this thread if possible.

Hi

If we *use* VCGM it would be even more useful. I know it doesn't have the traffic of ebay but it does have its problems either. I hear a lot of complaints about ebay from both sellers and buyers so there should be plenty of traffic on VCGM. It is a good alternative so let's use it!

Thanks and have a nice day!

I browse VCGM once in a while, but there is rarely anything there that I want that I don't have. I did purchase a few things since it opened originally way back when.

I agree. I just don't know why things don't move there.

I would be willing to say things don't move in the marketplace because it's only us that look at it. if we as a forum put it out there that we have a marketplace more people would probably be likely to use it then just within our own limited circle

Good question Stone. I've seen our posts show up within the hour on google (google a vintage system and likely end up with a post here about it or the post you were asking about it in) but I don't think I've ever seen a marketplace post come up in a result. Because of that though some folks do sign up here when looking to buy a system and finding an old post here on the forums from someone who had it for sale. My only dislike for the VCGM is the lack of integration on the forums. I have to go to it, it's a different site/url, if I saw a forum list that just popped up recent listings it'd be awesome.

If I may be so bold... I am a newbie to putting stuff on the Marketplace, and to me it's got a couple of issues. One is, it's much easier/less hassle to just post a FS/FT in the FS/FT forum. I can do it in two seconds and if someone shows any interest in something, they can PM me and ask questions, etc. Whereas on the marketplace, there is an endless array of options for the listings, and like eBay you have to consider any/all possibilities of questions or more completely describe the condition or completeness of the item than you would otherwise see on the typical FS/FT post.

Maybe it's a bit like the US mint/ bureau of engraving and printing having dollar bills printed and dollar coins minted, if given the choice people will gravitate toward one option.

Exactly... and it's the bills(Forum), not the coins(Marketplace) in almost every case. :) BTW, I agree with everything you mentioned.

Do marketplace posts get picked up on Google immediately like regular forum posts? Do they get picked up at all?

Hi

Yes, Google does pick up the VCGM items. However the other sites like eBay use SEO to push their sales way up on the search engine results.

Maybe Erik could get a script to post listings and relistings on VCGM to the "for sale or wanted" forum.

Also if VCF members have their own websites use a script to mirror VCGM and let the search engines like Google/Yahoo/Bing etc to index the site.

However the best way to boost VCGM is for as many hobbyists as possible to list their items. Just the large influx of listings will attract search engine attention.

Thanks and have a nice day!

Erik can probably speak to why he set it up. There actually used to be another nice vintage sales site but it went down for various reasons and Erik filled the gap. It at least gives a seller the ability to get a little more if folks had high interest in the item, it's not just first person to see the post gets the item which isn't always far or desirable, and I think a bit of a nicety is that it has an expiration date unlike a post which months later (or more expected a few days after nobody has interest and you dispose of the item) then someone necroposts about wanting it. The auction site's just a nice free alternative to getting nickel and dimed by ebay, plus no the bright side it's mostly us members here who are on it so there's a good chance it's going to a good home and trustworthy folks.

I like it for the most part. There aren't really any good alternatives that cover specifically vintage computing auctions. Gamegavel is videogames and has a big following but also takes a cut of sales now too so this is one of the last easy alternatives for folks just wanting to sell something where if it's truly rare they can get more for it than the $50 low ball offers.
