Has anyone tried the QuadPortIEC Plus yet?

I have had mine for months, but haven't had a chance to even try it out until today. Very cool contraption. I was given the Commodore setup over the weekend and figured it was a good time to try out the QuadPort at the same time as I fired up the C64.

I know of the QuadPortIEC, but this is the first time I hear of a "Plus" version.

So basically this is a QuadPortIEC with a uIEC/SD in the same case?

Where might one buy this device?

I don't know about the "+" part, but you can get the base device (as well as the uIEC) from here:

My friend Jim Peters makes these, but they are in very limited quantity. I have sent him an email to come here and comment whether he is making more.

Naturally, he's made one for me, and I love it. My favorite part is that you can switch out the uIEC if you're resetting the computer without resetting the uIEC. This is nice if you want to leave it in a disk image.

Yes, I got this one from him at the Chicago Expo. I have a heck of a time with the disk swapping function though, and I know it is "user" error. The single disk games work fine, but whenever I try a multi disk game, I can't figure out how to use the swap function.

I really don't know what the PLUS refers too. I have never seen the "non" plus version. I was happy to see this because I already had the uIEC, so this was a much cheaper option over buying one of those mini drives you see on Ebay.

Check out the link posted above for the original QuadPortIEC. It was originally supposed to just provide additional switchable ports to plug IEC devices into...nothing more. Jim decided that a uIEC would fit nicely, so he took a bunch and hand-modified them (I got to help on a few) to include a uIEC

Jim made one of these for me as well. He did a wonderful job with the build and I enjoy it immensely. It's so nice having all the functions it gives.

I added the Plus "+" to the name when I decided to build some of the units with a RESET option as well as switching the ATN line. The uIEC/SD was a later mod.

I still have some QuadPort+ units if anyone is interested. tjpet@mchsi.com

If you want to put a uIEC/SD drive in your own QuadPort unit and would like to see how I did the QuadPort+ units, I made up a step by step instruction book and a parts list. Contact me at tjpet@mchsi.com and I will send you a copy.
