Does anybody know if there is a difference between Osborne Executive with brown vs. blue case? I know the case color distinguishes the model I Osbornes, but I can't find anything about the 2 case colors used for the Executive.

The Executive 02 has the same case as the second version of the 01. A fan in the back handle and the front bezel were the difference. The 02 has 7" screen vs a 5" for the 01 amber and blue models. Hope this helps

A note on colour. The first 01 is tan and the second is a light blue. With age I have seen both model turn amber or orange.

I didn't think they ever released the executive 02? Honestly I never noticed different color Executives though, just the original Osbornes. Curtis may also have some insight if he notices the thread. (Pretty sure he had every model including the Vixen in the past).

They were selling the 02 Executive when they went into bankcrupcy. You might be thing of the 04 Vixen.

Yes, I believe that is correct. I have an O2 Executive that works very well. I don't like being constrained to CP/M 3, or whatever it was that the Executive had. I wish it could also boot up with the older CP/M 2.2.

Besides, it could never be that I might be in possession of a really rare item that is actually worth something...

Yeah, I noticed the thread!

Yes, the Exec was released. IF I remember correctly, Osborne Corp. announced the Executive while they still had a boatload of O-1's in the warehouse which immediately became obsolete and no one wanted and O-1. This forced the FIRST bankruptcy on Osborne.

ppcmini is correct regarding the case. The original O1 came in the tan case which proved to be a bit flimsy for, shall we say, more vigorous users. The gray/blue case resolved most of those problems.

The primary differences between the O-1 and Exec gray/blue case was as pointed out earlier. Integrated fan with the handle and the larger (usually amber) 7" screen.

Also, you would think Osborne would learn from their mistakes, but you would be wrong. They did the exact same thing when they announced the Vixen! Warehouse full of Execs suddenly obsolete! However, the only differences between the Exec and Vixen was the footprint of the case. Vixen was smaller with the hinged keyboard instead of the free-falling keyboard. Personally, I prefer the Exec/O-1 keyboard with the ability to prop the computer on the upper edge for a better viewing angle.
