Craigslist PDP-11/34 lot in New York

This stuff showed up back on the tenth on midatlnticretro reflector, will be quite a haul but think the owner is involved in a fishing expedition right now and dangling it out there for the best price. Too bad, I would put a thousand cash for this lot and it’s not that far from me but have a feeling it will sell for way more. Looking at what’s there its worth twice that but the tax man done put a big bite into my available money for toys. Somewhat surprised that it’s not on EBay yet.

When I was reaching out it started out as a come and get it. It's turned into an expectation of "thousands." I've walked away.

Once it hits Craigslist or EBay it’s going to be expensive. Numbers of people have been talking about this so it’s not going to be come and get it for taking it away. Too bad he is not willing to split it up but I understand that’s its way better to get rid of everything at once then to have to deal with a bunch of different people, shipping and then getting stuck with a bunch of odds and ends.

Since this is in my back yard, I sent a message this morning before work. No response yet. I did ask about the floppies and disk packs.

If someone here does end up with this lot, I will gladly help since I am so close.

He's looking for offers, did you send him the thousand offer? It may be the best one he receives.

Lately I see a lot of complete collections of any kind to be sold.
Problem is most of us aren't the ones having to store that lot of material at ones.
Then split up and sell it in pices with lots of time and effort.

Here in the Netherlands a big Museum of Old radio and equipment had to move to a smaler location.
To thin out the stock they had, for a complete month every
friday till Sunday afternoon trying to sell their stock.
Also last year a few collectors that by action try to sell at once.
It is hard to get rid off those big lots.

Should be a pitty when this PDP stuff get's lost.
But splitting it up in more lots it would be easier.
F.i. 8 VT100's , what to do with 8.
Maybe 2 would be good.
Also the lot matrix printers is for 1 person a bit over done.

Make a PDP set that would be nice and rest in smaler lots and gone it is.

Sent the guy an email and offered a box full of cash and that I would pick everything up without him having to do any lifting but not seen any response. Still think it’s a fishing expedition on his part to see how much he can get.
If for some weird reason I did get it would be selling off just about all of it being the only thing I am looking for out of that lot would be the TM-11 tape transport, controller and cables. Already have a couple 11/34 systems and just bought another DEC terminal up at VCF east but would think that maybe a VT-100 or two would be fun to play with. Funny thing about that lot, the more you look at it the more you realize that although it’s got some middle of the market DEC stuff like the 11/34 systems and the RK drives there are none of the huge money DEC items like a system with switches and lights or an old school PDP-8 with a teleprinter so maybe we are not talking about millions of dollars for this stuff?

I have been involved in this one as well. Hard to purchase something when the seller has no price.

Been there ...done that

In the early 90s, I bid on an auction lot like this which appeared to have 2 - 11/34's and 6 RK05 drives. One '34 was fine, the other was an empty box with no backplane. Lesson being - it's always suspect until you can pull the covers.

Who knows, maybe someone bought all the hardware and left the disk packs? Would think anyone who does something like that is making a huge mistake being the disk packs are in some ways just as hard to get as the drives although I now have more than enough RL-01 and 02 packs for my group of RL drives but whenever I see a cheap drive on EBay will try to pick it up as a spare. Would hope to see the TM-11 up for sale but now think it will more than likely be sold without the controller card or cables and that’s always an issue. Looks like my little offer to this guy of $1,000.00 cash did not even warrant a response from him so will see how this all plays out.

Dam, thought that price was for the whole lot of packs, not per disk. This guy must think he can retire on this stuff. Funny thing is there are several others trying to sell packs on EBay that are way less. One seller has four RL-02 packs listed for $99, I tend to buy packs when they are under $30 or $40 each but got a bunch of packs right now so not interested in the set of four for $25 each

I suspect that he will discover that he has a big lot of DEC stuff that will sit on eBay for months at the prices he's asking. Most everything I've bought through eBay that's DEC related I bought by doing a best offer that was typically about half the asked for price.
