I've finally had a chance to see if there is anything special about this cable, specifically how it's shielded and whether there are twisted pairs etc.
Well, here's a photo with the hood off the D62 connector:
No twisted pairs and no pair shielding etc, so any generic cable, with shielding, should be fine.
As using the IBM cable is like wrestling with a python, I've Been using a cable from Amphenol without any issues:
-62-Pin (HD62) Deluxe High-Density D-Sub Cable Assembly by Amphenol
-Connectors: HD62 male to HD62 male D-Sub connectors pre-installed
-Cable: 28 AWG UL listed with copper tape + aluminum mylar shields
-Straight-through wiring (i.e. pin 1 to pin 1) design per industry standards
-100% EMI/RFI shielded design combines aluminum mylar and copper tape
-Fully populated with Gold-plated contacts for superior signal continuity

Go with the 2.5' cable, as with most cables, the shorter the better (the genuine IBM cable is 3' not inc connectors).
