I have most of it scanned into a PDF. However, I have the attention span of a gnat. Anyone up for receiving a large (around 20 meg) directory of PDF files and helping me assemble it and look for missing pages (which I can then scan again)?

Thanks,
Kelly

I went through what you sent page by page, and I did not see any missing or damaged pages in the three files. To complete the manual, it looks like pages 171-180 and 231-369 will need to be scanned. Thanks for keeping the fold-outs as 11"x17" pages!

I have ABBYY Finereader, if you would like me to OCR all of it when it's done.

Thanks guys. I now have Pages 1 through 170 and pages 181 through 266 in two files.

I need to scan 171 through 180 and 267 to the end and combine everything.

File is currently 22 meg without the missing sections. Getting close.

Update: Have scanned the missing pages, merged into 1 and then added 90 pages at the end from the Tandon tm-848 service manual. Need to scan the schematics at the end of that and the hard drive manual after hours tonight.
342 pages so far.

Is there a definitive location for hosting Model II documentation? I've only found certain sites that I'm sure we are all aware of that contains some of this and some of that. I'd be happy to set up a documentation site if needed. Best case is that it should not be "owned" by one person since it can become lost if that person fails to maintain the site for whatever reason.

RE: Model II Documentation site.

I would suggest uploading to archive.org in addition to the others. While the 'normal' sites are out there, archive.org does this thing as part of their core mission.

I have finished scanning the 6000 service manual and sent it to NF6X and lowen to review. Once OCR'd I'll submit to archive.org and to bitsavers if they want it.

Given that the very rare Tandon TM-848-1E and -2E manual is part of this, I can almost certainly say that Al Kossow will want a copy, if only to pull that manual out separately. He might even want a copy pre-OCR.

I've reviewed, and this is an excellent scan indeed, with very few slightly askew pages. Magnificent work.

I'm about 100 paged into the OCR job. It's doing a good job of recognizing text, and I'm not carefully debugging the text recognition (which would take a few eternities!). But I am going through page by page and correcting classification of text, tables and images. Lots of work... but this is a fantastic document for us 6000 geeks, and it will probably also be helpful for other machines in the lineage. It has freaking PAL equations!!!11!one!!

I've completed the OCR task and returned it to Kelly. Based on skimming the manual during the process, I think it probably contains enough clues to allow some enterprising retro-engineer to create a solid-state hard drive card for the platform... ;)

GREAT job scanning. I quickly went through it, and only noticed that pages 381 & 382 had crinkled corners.

How in the world did you scan the 11x17 pages? You have a Flatbed scanner that will scan that large of a page, or did you splice them?
I'd like to be able to do 11x17's easily.

THANKS.

Larry

Please note that Pages 226 and 227 contain errors relating to the ports for Sector Number and the SDH Register. They are both listed as port 'CD' in the manual, when they should be 'CB' and 'CE' respectively. The correct ports are shown on page 220.

Strangely, although the ports for the Z-80 CTC (U25) are shown on page 220, their function is not listed on pages 225-7. I've not found the CTC ports [C4-C7] used in the HD driver source for Dosplus II, LS-DOS 6.3.1, Racet HSDS (on TRSDOS 2.0a), ATON, FMG, Lifeboat, P&T (2.2mH or Corvus versions) CP/Ms, Snappware SplitHD or TRSDOS 4.2.x. From the circuit diagram the CTC appears as through only CT/0 has an outside trigger (HDINTRQ) which I'm currently trying to trace back to Pin 11 of the Model II Bus: INTRQ* to confirm that this is indeed set up and able to be of use with the FreHD.

Hi Aaron,
I will try to remember to make and annotation about this and upload it. Any other changes?

I just checked and the manual has been added to bitsavers and archive.org. Glad to see it is out there for everyone.
