I am coming to the conclusion that I want to let go of my DEC equipment. It is all working just fine - many thanks are owed to the fine folks in the DEC Forum who have helped me out along the way. For me, my DEC equipment is simply too complex. I am having far more fun with my IMSAI, Altair clone, and presently my Color Computer 3. I also have a variety of other systems, both working and not-so-working, waiting in the wings.

So, here goes...

Fully working PDP-11/23:
Row 1 = M8186
Row 2 = M8044 DB
Row 3 = M8044 DB
Row 4 = M7940 (console)
Row 5 = M7940 (address 17650x)
Row 6 = Emulex UC07 (SCSI Interface)
Row 7 = M7946
Row 8 = empty
Row 9 = M8012 YA

I am successfully running RT-11SJ at present from a reformatted Macintosh SCSI hard disk, and also an SCSI Zip Drive. I have to manually type in a short boot program in ODT for my Emulex SCSI interface, and then the system is able to boot into RT-11.

I paid $400.00 for the original working PDP-11/23, and I added the second M7940 ($50.00) and Emulex UC07 ($250.00)

Here are some extras that I am including in this offer:

M8043 four port serial I/O board - believed to be working, but I cannot get it to work properly in my system (CPU jumper settings?)
M8028 serial I/O port - I'm not certain if this one is working or not
M7946 RX01 8" floppy disk controller - believed to be working
M8029 RX02 floppy disk controller, 18-bit DMA only - believed to be working, but not tested in my system
M8013 RL01 disk controller, 1 of 2 - believed to be working, but not tested in my system
M8014 RL01 bus controller, 2 of 2 - believed to be working, but not tested in my system

Finally, an RX01 dual 8" floppy disk, believed to be working, but I ran out of gas trying to get it to go. It was originally sold to me as an RX02 but it turned out to be an RX01. I had a heck of a time trying to acquire the proper floppy disk interface card, and then properly formatted 8" floppy disks. When a terrific person on the forum here helped me out with formatted floppy disks, I was disappointed with my inability to cope with the complexities of DEC equipment, and tired of relying on so much help from others. I never really got back to this system, and I went on to other systems that I am more capable of understanding and handling.

Is there any interest in this working PDP-11/23 system, plus the extra boards, and the RX01 floppy disk, for $1000.00?

If you are interested at all, please send me a message and we can discuss it. I can send you some pictures and tell you my stories. You can also look up my posts in the DEC Forum.

I would sincerely prefer local pickup. This stuff is extremely heavy and packing it properly for shipment would run into the 100s of dollars, for sure.

Thanks for listening,

As a couple of weeks have passed, it appears that my investment in this equipment may not be entirely recoverable...

Here is a new sale offer:

All of the equipment as described above for $750.00.

I greatly prefer local pickup, or the ability to meet somewhere reasonably close for transfer.
Of course, someone who is willing to come to me can see the equipment working prior to taking possession.
Shipping would easily run into multiple hundreds of dollars.

I have more than enough Q-Bus DEC stuff to keep me busy so this isn't something I need.

For anyone who is interested it would be good to add the details about what chassis (BA11, BA23?) and backplane this system has.

Hi Glen,

Thanks for the reminder...

My chassis is a BA11-N, with a H9273 backplane (18 bit, 4 columns x 9 rows).

I can post pictures if it might help anyone out with their decision.

I had a potential buyer for a while, but he lost interest.

This system plus extras remains available. I can provide pictures and/or a detailed written description.

I think this would make a nice system for somebody interested in taking their first plunge into the PDP-11 world.

Man oh man... If I weren't so far away I'd byte. But that's good because I can't imagine where I'd put it.

How in tarnation does one lose interest in such a thing?

From the description, it sounds like it would stack in the space of a PC/AT or A2000. After being uncreated, of course. Did you know that Uline sells easy to assemble wooden crates and packing foam? I used their stuff once when shipping a valuable piece of crypto hardware. Of course, a system like this doesn't need to take up prime desk space, since it just hooks to a dumb terminal or terminal emulator. It could be quite happy under a desk, on a shelf, etc., and an Amiga can run a number of fine VT100 emulators. I wonder how hard it would be to port tu58em to the Amiga?

Just doing my part to break down KC9UDX's resistance... ;)

Yes, but, if you saw what it took for me to find a spot for a Kaypro II recently...

I did not.

Or in a remote closet or attic space.

It should be a piece of cake, actually.

Returning the favour, I see. :D

If you could, I would appreciate it.

For everyone's information, I supply the description document and the photos by private e-mail message. If anyone is interested, please send me your private e-mail address by PM. I will respond with 3-4 e-mail messages containing the description document and ~60 MB worth of photos.

UPDATE: OK, it's only ~50 MB worth of photos. Sorry to mislead anyone! ;-)

It would be nice if we could have just one photo in this thread, now that you have got us all drooling.... :)
