Invalid EEPROM record found when running setupsl2 software

the little socket on the programmer indicated it was for 93CXX chips, which the chip I am testing is...
so I would have thought the version of the software i am running would work, as it would have been released,
after this model... But I will look for a newer version of the software.... ( pretty sure I did try newer software but kept getting the dreaded privileged instruction error when running IC-PROG) that will send me down another rabbit hole to solve that problem... but most likely a worthwhile one. :) Thanks for the suggestion...

this device is microwire .... :)

Solved!

Solved!

My replacement chips arrived, installed one in the 1000 SL2 and ran setupsl2.exe / f. And after that I was able to setup drive B as a 5 1/4" drive and it works great!

I guess those chips really don't retain their data for more than 100 years... :)

(The original advertising copy for these stated something like that)
