Weird problem with Windows 95 Solitaire

I haven't really seen this problem on any other computers, so it's a bit perplexing to me. The copy of Windows 95 I have installed on my 486 machine has a weird issue with Solitaire. My first thought is that it has something to do with my graphics card, since it falls under the category of being a 'GUI accelerator', but I'm not sure. Basically, when I open Solitaire, I cannot see the cards being dragged. I can fix it by going to the game menu and enabling Outline Dragging, then disabling Outline Dragging. Is this an issue anyone here has run into before?

EDIT: I'll add that this is Windows 95 A that I'm running, basically the Upgrade version with the Service Pack installed. I have a copy of OSR 2 I'm tempted to try to see if it would work better. I did not have this problem with the Windows 3.1 version of Solitaire.

Not sure if its possible in 95, but there is some bug or oddity in the way Solitaire interfaces to the graphics card. I seem to remember on later OS's that if you wound down the acceleration slider on the VGA card driver it cured it, but I don't recall in 95 had this feature....

I tried it on my Gateway 2000, 486 @ 66mhz running a Cirrus Logic VGA card with screen resolution of 800 x 600, on Windows 95b with PLUS! and there is no issue. :confused1:

I am pretty sure it does

That's because the problem is only with WIN95A. :)

Then I will try B, which I also have a copy of, and see if it helps (I was running the Upgrade version purely for nostalgia reasons, but if one of the OSR releases is actually going to work better, I might as well use it).

So far so good with Windows 95 B. Although now that I think about it, I'm not sure I noticed the Solitaire problem before installing Microsoft Intellipoint (which I had done to get scroll wheel support) so I guess I'll see if the problem is still alleviated in 95B after reinstalling that.

Ah ha! It is Intellipoint causing the issue, not my graphics card in and of itself! I'm guessing that it would have been fine on 95A had I not installed Intellipoint. I wonder if there is some Intellipoint setting I can tweak to alleviate this, as I'd hate to lose use of my scroll wheel.

There was an intellimouse driver for the wheel mouse, that should work with Windows 95

Okay, I tried downloading a driver marked as "Microsoft PS/2 Wheel Mouse Driver for Windows 95/NT." It turned out to just be an older version of Intellipoint, but it does work with my scroll wheel without messing up Solitaire. I am going to miss the ultra-smooth pointer motion that Intellipoint 4 provided, though, haha.
