I'm looking for the original IBM PC-DOS 4.0x disks (3.5") in order to complete my boxed copy. Preferred version is 4.01 German, but 4.00 and/or English would do as well.

I have the complete 4.00/4.01 boxed set if that's of interest to you.

Thanks for the offer, but I really only need the disks. I have a new-like boxed copy with the manual even still sealed. The disks got lost, however.

Hey, you can throw the box and manuals from this set away if you want. Once it's yours you're free to do whatever you like with it.

FWIW, these disks are labeled Version 4.01 but report Version 4.00 when queried.

Well, yes... I could. But I wouldn't, since I'm a collector. ;) You could also just send the disks only. :p

Yes, I know. 4.01 was only ever written on the disk label - it's not visible anywhere else. IBM replaced the buggy 4.00 disks without making a great fuss about it.

No they didn't. Some OEMs even put it in Rom on some systems.
Sorry, but I don't get it. What does your answer refer to? The attached picture shows "4.00" everywhere, which is just what I said. When 4.01 was done, IBM kept selling it as 4.00, with only the updated disk inside. The buyer wouldn't see until opening the package.

OEMs and ROMs are not relevant here, as the topic is about the retail version on floppy disk. (also, OEMs used MS-DOS, not IBM PC-DOS, right?)

I've got a number of PC-DOS 4.00/4.01 sets in the boxes...most of them still in the shrinkwrap...some of the smaller cardboard box type, and some of the larger 3-ring binder in a box type. Sold a few on ebay years ago and just never got back to disposing of the rest. I would have to look and see what I have, I might be willing to separate out an open box set and send just the disks...english version of course. PM me with an offer and I'll check it out if you want. Anyone else is welcome to make me an offer if you want a set...not sure if the disks are still good as they haven't been stored in a conditioned space...probably still OK though...

I was referring to your comment about IBM not making a big fuss.....................well outwardly anyway. Behind the scenes it was panic stations to get 4.0 sorted out and by then the damage had been done in the market place.

That's the point, I guess. ;)

Still searching, btw. :D

I still have the disks.

Don't you know somebody who has the disks and needs the rest of the crap?
Unfortunately not. What are you asking for for the whole package? I fear that shipping the whole package from the US to Germany is much, much more expensive than shipping the disks only would be, however.

Ok, I've got another copy of IBM PC-DOS 4.01, this time complete and still sealed. So now I have a sealed one with disks and a new-like one without disks. Doesn't really help, as I'm not going to open the sealed package. :p My search for the disks continues...

I'm not looking for disk images but real disks. Well, I'd be pleased with disk images if anything else fails, but then it must be the German version of 4.01. WinWorld has no German version of 4.x at all. :(
