Model II Keyboard Differences - Further Analysis

I ordered the foam that I have from McMaster-Carr. But it sounds like it's not a good option since it's so firm, so I'll try something else.

I was perusing the 1985 RS Computer Catalog and came across this photo

First one to notice something strange gets a star! (Hint: It is germane to this discussion.)

Model II/16 keyboard case plastic on a Model 12/6000, vs. the thinner profile of the newer keyboard case plastic?

Edited to add: I'm not normally awake this early, but I hit the sack early last night after a grueling first day at a new job. They made me talk to many people. Socialism is exhausting! :)

Yes! Here is your star. *

I imagine it is simply a 16A keyboard being used on a Model 12. I wonder if it was just a prop mistake or if there really was an approved Tandy keyboard adapter.

Grab some Sun 4 keyboards and pull the keyboard foams out of them. That's where I get mine from. Fixed 4 Lisa keyboards and a Tandy 6000 KBD using 4 of them.
But then I have access to a warehouse which still have some of those left. The Keyboards I mean. Ask Pete they work well. I sent him a few. That's if you haven't
made any yet mark.

Also back on topic maybe get 2 5 pin din sockets and solder to a vero/Proto board and do the cross wiring on it. Then plug a 5 pin DIN cord into each side of the little adapter
hook up to KBD and to Model 12,16B or 6000.

The Sun type 4 keyboards do make life easy. They seem to be about 10 years younger than the Tandy keyboards on average and use a better foam than the Tandy keyboards. The pads are literally a drop in replacement and turn a multi-hour rebuild job into less than an hour. This is my new preferred way of rebuilding Tandy keyboards.

Realizing that this thread is a few years old, I'll still post ... if I'm adapting a Tandy 6000 keyboard (B-model as above) to use with a Model II (A-model as above), I'll need the opposite cable as Pete. I'll need a female-to-female 5-pin DIN and play "connect the dots" accordingly to the prose in this thread. Correct?

Correct.

we did this all the time back at TS. most of us preferred the feel of the 6000 type keyboards. a couple of months ago i came across an adapter i made sometime in the 80s. sorry i’m just seeing this thread... might have saved you some time.
